Terrorists kill five, take four kids hostage in Jammu

New Delhi: At least five people including an Army officer have been killed in the ongoing gun battle between terrorists and the security forces in Jammu’s Bantalab area.

Two civilians have been injured and the terrorists - holed up in the Chinore residential locality in Bantalab - have taken six people, including four children hostage.

One of the terrorists has been killed, police say. Jammu SSP Manohar Singh told CNN-IBN most residents have been safely evacuated but also confirmed the hostage situation.

Police say a group of three to four terrorists, traveling in an auto rickshaw, entered the Mishriwala area on Tuesday and opened fire at a police barrier.

They then entered the Chinore residential area in Bantalab and are still holed up there.

The terrorists are believed to be from the same group that infiltrated into India from the International border at Kana Chak on Tuesday.

** CNN-IBN spoke with Billuram, owner of the house where terrorists are holed up. His family is being held hostage “The militants have entered my house. My four children and wife are inside. A boy from the neighbourhood may also be inside,” he said.**

IANS reports: Police said the terrorists, dressed in battle fatigues and carrying AK-47 assault rifles, entered a house in Chinore and hid there.

On their way to the house, they shot dead Shabit Hussain, a milkman, and the driver of the autorickshaw they were travelling in.

“A high alert has been sounded in Jammu due to the infiltration by three terrorists from across the international border,” Inspector General of Police (Jammu Zone) K. Rajendra said.

The Border Security Force (BSF), along with police and army personnel, had launched a massive manhunt for the militants, who had entered the Indian territory at Kanachak, about 20 km north of here, after cutting the barbed wire fence.

“This is a serious situation. The intruders sneaked into the Indian side under the cover of fire, which was most probably provided by the Pakistani Rangers,” a BSF official said.

The exchange of fire had lasted for nearly two hours until 2 a.m. Tuesday.

Security agencies are worried in view of the situation in Jammu.

People here have been holding rallies demanding the return of 40 hectares of government land to the Shri Amarnath Shrine Board (SASB). They plan a huge rally Wednesday at the Parade ground which can accommodate tens of thousands to give a momentum to their agitation, already in the 57th day on Tuesday.

Kashmir on brink as Islamic militants take family hostage - Times Online

Yeah I found it also. Two things. One anybody taking women and children hostage deserves to be killed. So go for it.

Secondly how incompetent is the Indian military that militants constantly cross the LOC? Do you guys not train your army guys to lock the door?

Re: Terrorists kill five, take four kids hostage in Jammu

^ there is also Pakistani army across the border, it is there responsibility first to stop these animals right at their doorstep but what can you expect from ISI controlled army?

Re: Terrorists kill five, take four kids hostage in Jammu

Here is the question then. You say we support them - that is your claim - then you assume they are allowed to get through with approval correct? Then why can't you stop them? After all based on your claim we aren't stopping them in the first place.

Re: Terrorists kill five, take four kids hostage in Jammu

CM ,this is a very long border and you can't top each and every creature from intruding .(For ex:Paharpur to Akhnoor in Jammu division alone is 187.5 km)Moreover,it was Pakistan and it's army impeded India's efforts to fence the border.

During our efforts in fencing the border ,there were constant interruptions from Pak army ,resorting to firing at Indian positions.

Re: Terrorists kill five, take four kids hostage in Jammu

So basically your army can't do its job? Also fencing the border is an illegal activity as the LOC is simply a stalemate situation. You need to complete your promise of holding a plebicite.

Re: Terrorists kill five, take four kids hostage in Jammu

Who said we can't do the job.Inspite of illegal interventions from Pakistan our people did a fantastic job.But it is difficult to have a check on each and every inch of the border all the time.We will hold plebicite after Pakistan carries out the same in POK. :)

And also when Pakistan is going to withdraw troops from POK as per U.N resolutions? :)

whole world knows where their Aakkas Sayed salahuddin, Hafiz Muhammad Saeed (LET) and so many blah.. blah.. chiefs sleep and eat butter chickens, now whose responsibility is this to control these animals Hizb-ul-Mujahideen, Lashkar-e-Toiba, Harkat-ul Mujahideen and so on... these all are legally banned terrorist groups operate from Pakistan, so it is Indian army's responsibility to go Pakistan and kill them or Pakistans?

Re: Terrorists kill five, take four kids hostage in Jammu

Pakistan should be happy to have a neighbour like India. If it was Israel, Mr.Sayyid Salaudhin, Mr.Hafiz,Mr.Masood Azhar all would be sitting in hell now.

Troops started withdrawing from Azad Kashmir back in 1949. Documented fact. Look up any objective historical documents on the matter. Actually I am still awaiting your response on the UNSC thread. I responded but you guys have not answered my questions.

How can you say you are doing the job when militants slip through all the time?

Hollowman I would honestly suggest first teach your guys how to lock doors and patrol their border properly? It is a rather embarrassing failure of the Indian army that they keep getting through all the time?

Pakistan has withdrawn from part of Kashmir only ,not from POK.Pak army is still there.

You are scoring 98 out of 100 in an exam ,does not mean that you did not do your job.Right?

Re: Terrorists kill five, take four kids hostage in Jammu

As per the UNSC resolution you love to quote, Pakistan agreed to withdrawing its troops and commenced said action in 1949. When did India do what it is required?

Re: Terrorists kill five, take four kids hostage in Jammu

When did Pak withdraw from POK?It's army is still there.

Now you have forgotten one palpable agreemnt sweetly.Tht's 1972 Simla Agreement. It's given below:-

(i) That the principles and purposes of the Charter of the United Nations shall govern the relations between the two countries.

(ii) That the two countries are resolved to settle their differences by peaceful means through bilateral negotiations or by any other peaceful means mutually agreed upon between them. Pending the final settlement of any of the problems between the two countries, neither side shall unilaterally alter the situation and both shall prevent the organisation, assistance or encouragement of any acts detrimental to the maintenance of peace and harmonious relations.

(iii) That the prerequisite for reconciliation, good neighbourliness and durable peace between them is a commitment by both the countries to peaceful coexistence respect for each other's territorial integrity and sovereignty and noninterference in each other's internal affairs, on the basis of equality and mutual benefit.

(iv) That the basic issues and causes of conflict which have bedeviled the relations between the two countries for the last 25 years shall be resolved by peaceful means.

(v) That they shall always respect each other's national unity, territorial integrity, political independence and sovereign equality.

(vi) That in accordance with the Charter of the United Nations, they will refrain from the threat or use of force against the territorial integrity or political independence of each other.

Both governments will take all steps within their power to prevent hostile propaganda directed against each other. Both countries will encourage the dissemination of such information as would promote the development of friendly relations between them.

In order progressively to restore and normalise relations between the two countries step by step, it was agreed that:

(i) Steps shall be taken to resume communications, postal, telegraphic, sea, land, including border posts, and air links, including over flights.

(ii) Appropriate steps shall be taken to promote travel facilities for the nationals of the other country.

(iii) Trade and cooperation in economic and other agreed fields will be resumed as far as possible.

(iv) Exchange in the fields of science and culture will be promoted.

In this connection delegations from the two countries will meet from time to time to work out the necessary details.

In order to initiate the process of the establishment of durable peace, both the governments agree that:

(i) Indian and Pakistani forces shall be withdrawn to their side of the international border.

(ii) In Jammu and Kashmir, the line of control resulting from the ceasefire of December 17, 1971, shall be respected by both sides without prejudice to the recognised position of either side. Neither side shall seek to alter it unilaterally, irrespective of mutual differences and legal interpretations. Both sides further undertake to refrain from the threat or the use of force in violation of this line.

(iii) The withdrawals shall commence upon entry into force of this agreement and shall be completed within a period of 30 days thereof.

All nations signing the Charter of the United Nations are required to implement all UNSC resolutions attributed to them. So Simla is 100% in compliance with the UNSC resolutions.

In 1949....ESL classes not going well? As per the UNSC resolution that you champion Pakistan began withdrawing. When did India do so?

Re: Terrorists kill five, take four kids hostage in Jammu

Began withdrawing and withdrew ,both are different..If began withdrawing, how Pak Army be there in pOK even after 59 years!!! F.S.C are not going well?
