Rate Pakistani Players

How would you rate these Pakistan players in T20 WC?

Mohammad Aamer - Good find, needs to learn the art of swing. He’ll be in the team for a long time.

Shahzaib Hasan - A couple of good knock but needs to learn to rotate the strike. I think this was his last outing with the team though.

Saeed Ajmal - Him and Ajmal are both over 31. So age not on their side. Spins the ball and quite a few varieties. If Kaneria doesn’t improve he is the guy to stick with.

Salman Butt - Well, I would stick with him. He’s going through a rough path.

Fawad Alam - Didn’t play much, I would play him just for his fielding.

Razzaq, Misbah, Afridi, Akmal, Gul, Younis proved how important they are.

Ajmal and Aamer .....

Allah ka shukr hai we won, other wise we would be criticizing individual players

Gul/Afridi/Ajmal/Kamran/Younis/Razzak well played// They won us the cup.

Malik/misbah/Fawad/Tanvir/Butt— didnt get enough chances maybe to show their game, but they provided the ever present back-up to give the first group confidence.

Spare a thought for Razzak, who came back into the team after 2-3 years. The personal pressure must have been tremendous. His put his hand up in the final & the three wickets were critical to push SL down and the others made sure they never got up.

Afridi is the mature responsible revelation who can turn on the old carefree burst when needed, he should have been man of the tournament!

Younis, he knows how to control the team. We have had more talented teams that did not win tournaments, I hope he gets talked out of retirement.

Kamran is the new Afridi with his unrelenting aggression, not too long ago people were calling for him to be axed. They all love him now

Gul is our pace spearhead, Ajmal is the smiling fox. We all are the lucky fans who were able to witness the second comming of the Pakistan team.

:jhanda:

Re: Rate Pakistani Players

Agree with all of your points a1kashur. However I would reiterate that Mohammad Aamer is really good, and needs to be persisted with. We haven't had a good left arm pacer in a long time, and Aamer is better than just good.

Find of the tournament is Aamer. Ajmal had already been performing since the Australia series, but he really solidified his credentials here. Aamer is the one who burst on to the scene in this tournament with his impressive bowling spells.

Re: Rate Pakistani Players

For weird reasons Aamer looked like left-handed version of Sami.

the Hair ?

Re: Rate Pakistani Players

Finds of the tournament were Aamer and Shahzaib to me....
Both did pretty well and showed their talent and potential... They are young and energetic.. They both can be transformed into great players if PCB give them the right attention and coaching... Aamer needs to see likes of Akram or Waqar ASAP for guidance ( I m not saying that Aaqib is not doing his job)...

For Shahzaib, he has talent, the talent with the likes of Inzimam, those who had the privilege of seeing Inzimam at his start of career 91/92 would know what I mean... Inzi had the same raw power and aggression. He used to go after every ball. But later on, likes of Miandad and Malik trained him well. Shahzaib needs to coached by the likes of Younis,Yousuf and Misbah, and he would be a good asset at the top..

Tanvir is a nice bowler but at times only, he is inconsistent many of the time. To me he is never a test class bowler.. Though he is very handy in ODI and T20 specially.

About Butt...I dont have any comments.. he did pretty well in the past many a times in the ODI and Test, but somehow, I dont know what happens to him in T20...

Malik needs some rest, by rest I dont mean he needs to be axed, but some relieve from pressure.. He is a fine cricketer as well.

Re: Rate Pakistani Players

Aamer really was find of the tournament. He did a lot better than Sami or Rana would have done, even though they are much more experienced than him. Hopefully under Aaqib Javed and tips from Wasim/Waqar he can grow out to be an excellent attack bowler. Now if we can find another attack bowler like Gul or Asif...

Don't jinx him, pleeeeease!!!!

Sami bhais/style badal ker team main doabara aa gaya :D

Agree with everything except your comment on Shazaib. He is only 19 but he showed enough talent @ World T20 and I would pick him for the one-dayers against Sri Lanka to boost his confidence. I was impressed with his clean hitting and his ability to strike the ball hard. Like many Pak batsmen he needs to work on his run-calling....too impatient at times. I w'd persist with the same opening pair - Akmal-Shazaib - in 50 over games as well.

I don't believe though that Fawad is a test player. Let's wait and see. I know Afridi made himself unavailable for SLA tests but we do have Malik and Razzaq in the team now.

A bits and pieces cricketer like Fawad was not really needed IMO. He might not even get a game (test). But I am all for having him for T20 and ODIs. The PCB should have gone for another solid batter like Ahmed Shahzad or even Shazaib in tests.

And Salman Butt should just play test matches IMO

Re: Rate Pakistani Players

Considering yesterday's final match, I can't help but think how everything worked for Pakistan and how each player seemed to be in the place they were meant to be in.

I can't help myself but wonder what if Butt wasn't replaced by Shahzaib and those two crucial catches were dropped - what if...

I can't help myself but wonder what if Razzaq wasn't there to provide the three wicket breakthrough that gave us the opportunity to restrict SL to a low score - what if...

etc.

All in all, the current team seems to have be a synergistic unit with adequate skills in all departments.

Aamer has been a revelation in the tournament and has the potential to grow under the mentorship of Aaqib Javed, Wasim, and Waqar.

Shahzaib shows some semblance of a decent batting aptitude but needs more time for us to assess his ability further.

Akmal had a decent run behind the stumps with some new records being made - albeit against the Netherlands, but to be fair, many other keepers had similar opportunities too. He also provided the cautious aggressive start that Pakistan needed in batting.

Afridi has strongly gestured that he is capable of responsibility if given the opportunity, and for that reason, the ICC felt it necessary to ask "why the hell isn't he slogging carelessly - is he's on dope?" :-)

All in all, almost everyone seems to have found his place in the team - and hope it just gets better here on in.

Re: Rate Pakistani Players

The most goodooking cricket team on planet earth

What is Shoaib Malik, if Fawad is bits-n-pieces?

Not really, it was hard to find Sami’s eyes with his streaked-long-hair

I don’t wanna do that.

His celebration after the wickuttt looked like Sami’s too… I think :hmmm:

Agree with you except for Butt who needs to be kicked out of the team. He has been going through a rough patch since he held a bat in his hand.

Re: Rate Pakistani Players

Niksik: :omg: I wouldn’t disagree!

Afridi, Akmal, Younus, Razzaq, Ajmal, Amir - all good.

Shahzaib was okay, but he has a lot to improve on. He can hit the ball well but his running on the field can be so much better. Erm, Butt & Tanvir have seriously lost form and are best kept away.

Oh and they HAVE to keep Amir & Ajmal forever :snooty: theres my input.

high five I have said this to every single person who will listen to me :cb: I totally AGREE!

Shoaib Malik and Razzaq are both proven at test level. Both have scored test hundreds and played match-saving innings for Pakistan in test matches. Can't have Fawad just for his fielding in tests. I know he did not get many chances with the bat in World Twenty20 but I am not convinced (despite all the hype) that he can deliver with the bat against real opposition in limited overs cricket be it T20 or 50-over games. And his bowling is nothing but halwa for the opposition. That was so evident against SA and in some of the earlier games.

So let's wait and see.
