I just watched an amazing athlete on the parallel bars.
The routine left me absolutely speechless with my jaw hanging open. I could not believe the kind of strength, precise control and fluidity that his body exhibited. I thought of this thread and some of the comments and almost wanted to throw up for the disrespect that is being shown.

This man must have worked for thousands of hours, hundreds of days just to be able to compete today. He would have given up sleep, sacrificed his desires for those things that we eat/do inconsequentially. He must have dedicated his life to his sport and we have people sitting here reducing his efforts/dreams to nothing more than sexuality…

Reminds me of an account of person on censor board, he said about two molvis on the censor board, one saying to the other

“Zara is ko rewind kerain”, then saying to other molvi “moulana dekhaiN kitna wahiyaat scene hai”

Im sure most of the sports can be done without skimping on the clothes, that is the issue here. Its not just about the sport its about basic decency. Could you sit down with family and watch?

Someone could use that excuse to watch other similarly clothed programs and say they appreciating the fine acting.-

The skimping is simply unnecessary but it brings in the audience so it does sell. why do you think those that do want to cover get a hard rap? The saudi judo girl is one example and the iranian women football team that did not enter due to the hijab ban. The contradiction here is troubling.

It's sickening that some of these people are posing naked for magazine (males as well ) for money and fame and still you guys can't see anything wrong with it. What's the difference between Veena Malik and these people?

The whole scene of Olympics is about to change, it will be more about gossips and "who slept with who" and less about the sportsmanship. This wasn't the case a decade ago.

Sure some of you can easily separate the two aspects of their lives and their play but some of us can't.

i think you need to pick and choose the kind of media you expose yourself to as your news source. i follow the games as much as i can, and all i see are stories of people making it through difficulties in life, with or without support of families. many of the american athletes even being annoying with their OMGZ i love god so much religiosity.

Sadly, the only "religious" news I came through was about girls not being allowed to cover up or take of headscarf. And here we are posting in "Olympics and soft porn".

Anyway, I understand the both sides of the argument and I think if you're truly interested in sport then you won't even notice the negativity and "sexual" aspect.

well you clearly missed the bunch of arab/afghan women who took part in track and field events in hijabs. demanding your own religious dress code in any contact sport is impractical. unless you are ok with sikhs wrestling while holding a religious dagger, and a metal bangle, etc.

Your question came out from nowhere and I started answering it in Veena Malik and desi culture's context.

Anyway the actual point was just because some of us choose to ignore the sexual side of the Olympics doesn't mean everyone else does. If there was no sexual attraction between people and Olympians or between Olympians and Olympians there wouldn't be any need for Durex to distribute 100,000 condoms among the participants.
