Ripped, tanned men seemingly carved out of marble are making women and gay men happy—very happy—during these Olympics, spurring Internet memes and social-media buzz. It’s like the Channing Tatum male-stripper movie Magic Mike got a sequel—a very (thankfully) long sequel—one that’s also preciously short on plot but long on beefcake.
While women have long provided daydream fodder for men and lesbians—say hello to the field hockey team when not checking out the scantily clad ladies taking part in the beach volleyball competition—London’s Games seem to be drumming up a particularly focused interest in celebrating the fine male physique.
American gold-medal swimmers Ryan Lochte and Nathan Adrian might have gained notoriety for winning races, but they became instant sex symbols the second they stepped out of the pool. In the days since their London debut, you can read all about Ryan Lochte’s penchant for one-night stands, and there are entire articles parsing the hot-but-dumb problem posed by Lochte, and conversely how smart and sweet Adrian is and whether or not he has a girlfriend. (He’s single! Ready, set, go!).
Part of the reason for this seemingly newfound fascination with the hotness quotient of Olympic athletes is the explosion of social media. In 2008 during the Beijing games, Twitter only had 6 million users, Facebook had 100 million; today, there are nearly 500 million users (170 million considered active) and nearly 1 billion, respectively. Then, the iPhone had only been around for one year.
Wow. Whoever can't stop thinking about sex while watching sports have other psychological issues to worry about. Not everybody gets off while watching the Olympics. There are people out there who actually enjoy the sports for what they are and nothing more.
^ Yeah except men are far more likely to start thinking about sex, especially when the athlete is attractive. I'm not justifying ogling, just saying that you're only looking at it from a woman's point of view.
PS: seriously......if you wanted to enjoy the thrill of the sport.....you would only watch men playing....... they are better athletes, better technique and overall quality of gameplay......... womanz sports is like...just extra eyecandy..
If anything, watching these games should make us all want to become fit. The women do look amazing from head to toe. It's inspiring and motivating to see their muscles in action. I'm surprised nobody else here has expressed that desire to become fit and want to look as lean and amazing as these athletes do.
I go running at 6 am in the mornings and I have been trying to step up my routine since the Games began. I googled the fitness routine for the women I admired the most to see what their workout routine is. Zara Dampney works out 6 days a week, doing a combination of weights, cardio, strenghtening exercises, etc. Heck, if she can do this, we should all be motivated to do this too.
Hai hai those larkian. Mar jawan. Mehnaz don't be a prude. Those girls are sexy and deserve to be appreciated for it. We appreciate that they work so to stay so FIT.
Women or men…if you are unable to appreciate the amazing human body in its glory without resorting to sexual innuendo then obviously there is some growth needed.
I wonder how some folks would have managed in days gone by when the athletes were expected to perform nude.
Not sure why some of the posts are directed at female athletes because the article is about women and gay men having sexual fantasies about male athletes which is like... worrying... and ulti.
I'll find solace in the fact that social media is dominated by the hormonal youth who have nothing better to be doing.
