Make-Up (Buying essentials)

Re: Make-Up (Buying essentials)

Pakistan's heat is notorious for making makeup fade and melt faster than it normally would. One solution would be to use a tinted moisturizer during the day and forgoing the foundation until an evening event. But if that can't be done, get a really good quality foundation and apply it properly and evenly. The upper end brands are formulated with more pigment and less fillers (which is why they're so pricey to begin with, as opposed to drugstore brands that are more filler than pigment). No matter what, you will have to touch up throughout the day--so it's wise to carry a compact and blotting papers with you.

Also, while you might be under the impression that foundation is unnecessary, it really refines your skin tone. One other thing I've learned is that when you're taking photos, bare skin absorbs light, while a face with foundation reflects light, usually making for a better shot. You have to make the effort to find the right one though. When I went to Pakistan for my valima many years back, I used Bobbi Brown's foundations (you can get them at Nordstrom). I got a lot of compliments and my makeup artist (Mighty) even used my foundation for the valima. It was very hot in those days and I remember that the night of the valima, after we came home, the electricity went out and I didn't wash my face. The next morning, my makeup was still perfectly set, I kid you not. I could have been a bride again :D

One other thing is that after applying moisturizer, don't put you foundation on for at least 10-15 minutes until the "greasiness" has gone away. Also, if you have oily skin, use a mattifying lotion or primer before applying foundation. This should help keep your makeup set longer.

Re: Make-Up (Buying essentials)

is it BOBBI BROWN FOUNDATION STICK?

Re: Make-Up (Buying essentials)

I use her liquid foundation, and for special occasions, I'll use her cream foundation (the thick one). I've been told the stick is better for people with dry skin looking more medium to heavy coverage.
I like her color range since it's more yellow based and suits Asian and desi skin better.

I tried really hard to get a good match with Armani's foundation, since the magazines always rave about it, but it always looked a little "greenish" on my skin, despite the fact I took samples from four colors and even had them apply it.

Very informative! Thanks!**

Gina, any suggestions on the brand/kind etc for the yellow-based concealer...I have heard abt it before but never used it.

Thanks

Bobbi Brown has a good yellow base concealer and so does Clinique.

^ Gina, hi! [Sorry if it seems like I am shadowing you everywhere... :)]

Anyway, as I am sure you already know by now... I have super oily skin and when I apply foundation/pressed powder, it tends to run down within minutes. I don't usually apply foundation because my skin breaks out everytime I do, so I just stick to powder for the most part.

I realize using a foundation first may provide good coverage but because of the "cakiness" and "smearing" factors I choose to just use powder.

Help, please.

Afsoon prep u're skin with an astringent before u apply u're foundation, if u have clear blemish-free skin skip the foundation and use a concealer on the blemishes followed by powder. But if u have uneven skin then try a foundation stick those have more pigment and less oil so they work well. Liquid foundations have more oil and less pigment and with the heat the oil seperates and the foundation splits!

Whenever u're out keep a small bottle of astringent with u and u're compact to tone down the oiliness. I find pre-powdered blotting papers VERY useful during summers.

Great advice, thank you!

What do you think of Chanel comestics? Considering the fact that I have super oily skin, should I be using Chanel... or switch to something else?

Chanel I blv doesn't really cater to our skin-type and color. I prefer MAC and Bobbi Brown as they tend to work well with Asian skins. Try 2-3 different colors (in daylight) and see what works for u. And purchase a powder that's the same shade as u're foundation, not any shade lighter.

Afsoon u shud use products that combat the oiliness such as good astringents, blotting papers and foundations that are cream-to-powder.

Re: Make-Up (Buying essentials)

i went to Bobbi Brown and they said they don't have powders

guyzzzzz!
is there a foundation in pakstn that DOES NOT melt in summers hot weather? plz dont tell me bout a/cs. i already know about this invention. hehe

marwah, they do in Dubai and their foundation sticks are the BEST!

Re: Make-Up (Buying essentials)

lucky you..they don't have them where i live =(

And you don't like MAC powders?

Re: Make-Up (Buying essentials)

For all those who have problems and apprehensions about melting away of the makeup (as it does in summers in Pak) have you tried icing before applying make up? i.e. patting your face all over with ice cube? It must help in shutting down of the pores that absorb makeup...

Mirage this works till u're indoors, the minute u step-out the heat in bound to re-open u're pores and make u're base split (oil from the pigment) and that makes u're foundation smear and runny!

Use a non-alcoholic astringent before applying makeup and a good balm to keep u're skin shine-free and matte.

Thanks !!!
