I have a slight dilemma…everyone is suggesting that I get my make-up from here before I leave for my wedding (which is taking place in Lahore in August, insha`Allah). Even my MIL
called me the other day to suggest that I bring all my cosmetics essentially all the make-up items from here…I told her that I do not wear make-up and I was told that after marriage I would need some bit of make-up blah blah…Anyway…
My questions is what is that I need…like “must have” in make-ups
Other than moisturizers and clear gloss I rarely buy any thing to adorn my face
So please guide me along as to what I would need…I have a combination skin so I
hardly bother with anything in summers!
Let’s start with a list of things I would need… (All suggestions are welcome)
a base- either a powder or a foundation... if you're planning on the makeup artist using your makeup, then its a good idea to buy both as they will most likely use both.
lipstick - a couple of darker shades that suit your skin tone and a couple of medium ones for daytime wear
lipliner - match your darker ones, for lighter colors you can get away with no lipliner
blush - match your skin tone
eyeliner - black, brown, navy blue, grey are basics
eyeshadow - tan, gold, darker brown, silver (to use as a highlighter if you wish or on its own for a subtle shimmer), any other colors you love
a set of good makeup brushes
face wipes or facial cleanser
moisturiser - fast-absorbing and non-greasy - oil of olay is great
mascara - i love loreal's voluminous in blackest black
go to any good makeup counter and the artist will be able to help you choose what works for you and looks good on you, and a lot of them might even be able to give you a quick lesson on how to use this stuff :)
i know mac definitely offers this service but in toronto anyway, its by appointment only
Go to MAC - make sure you know your color palette.. get them to help you out. If your buying products make sure you buy their hydrating water.. its in a clear bottle and they spritz it on to make sure your makeup lasts.. i got my makeup done for my engagement from MAC and i sat for 6 hrs.. heck i even slept with the makeup on and not even an inch moved..
make sure you get studio fix powder in your skin tone -
also when choosing eye shadows make sure you choose light>darker>darkest to compliment the tones in your dresses
they have an amazing choice of mascaras' and liners so make sure you take a good good look, get them to try everything on you.
Also, get their eye and lip makeup remover, its like the most amazing thing ever!!
I wud suggest a light-weight foundation and a foundation stick for full-coverage. Light-weight for everyday occasions and the stick for night-time.
In addition to that for new brides gold/silver/copper eye-shadows are a must..and then get sum of the basics such as emerald green, turquoise, neutral brown. And yeah black for dramatic-eyes =)
Buy a good mascara and a brown eye-liner (for the day) and a very black eye-liner (for the night)
Lip-liners (I love body shop lip-liners) one in a berry color, one in dark brown and one that matches u're lip-color =) Lipsticks 1.) rich plum/berry stain, 1.) chocolate brown 1.) a light nude beige
Goodlord! What should a person do if they are not into all this make up and only like using a moisturizer and lipstick? I mean does a newly wed bride really has to put up all that make up? :(
Is there a way to get away with most of these make up accessories as you don't really intend on using them? I mean how to convince moms and MIL's?
Oh and what is the difference b/w a liquid foundation and a stick foundation? Which is better?

nah you don't have to use them, lusi... but you also can't get away with a bare face and lipgloss as a new bride... at least in pakistan where she's going and will probably have 200 dawats to attend in her honor... plus all that pretty jaheyz needs equally pretty makeup to compliment it... no?
in the end, i think you should know a few basics, just for every day life too- how to apply your base (i only use mac's studio f/x and it does the trick- i dont wear foundation at all), your eyeliner, mascara, blush and lippy. after that, you can usually fudge it - smooth some gold eyeshadow on with your finger all over your lid, add a nice thick layer of eyeliner, pump up the color of your lippy, apply your blush and you're all set to go. it doesn't have to be complicated at all.

** WOW those are SO MANY steps to follow groans...the only time I ever tried an eye liner...it ended up like the irregular chainsaw marks :D that was it for me...never bothered again! ppfffttt
I guess I will have to take some make-up application lessons as well :p**
all of the ladies at the mall can help u decide wht colors suit u.....bt also u need to decide ur own look....if u dont use much make up as it is.....minimalist/natural/soft look is the best.............
also make up depends on ur skin tone and type.......clinique has very good products for sensitive skin.......MAC has vibrant colors so depends on how experimental u r.........
actually im into choosing the best things from all of the brands, not just sticking to one
clinique has a wonderful moisturizer
mac loose powder works wonders--gives an ethereal glow
chanel lipsticks r the softest
foundation is a must and again u need to find the one that goes well...chanel has this one with multivitamins really good, mac's studio finish foundation is the lightest ever---feeels as if u dont have anything on and gives ur skin a natural glow........
elizabeth arden has an apricot blush---color is strange but suits many ppl......and gives a nice sun-kissed glow......
ysl has beautiful eyeshadow colors as does mac........
and if u want to go with the pharmacy brands--revlon has many many colors that suit pak complexions......

practice with pencil eyeliner, not liquid... its way easier to control and correct any mistakes. it just takes some practice, thats all :)
my studio finsh is an actual liquid foundation and it works wonders....really light and gives a nice glow..:):):) after that i add this sparkle powder which is amazing........
ull get used to it....start with a few things and build up......and gradually ull see wht looks good on u....i suggest practicing these days.........a lil of this a lil of that.....and ull see wht makes u comfortable.....and which colors you like on urself:):)
well loose powder kinda looks like normal powder (body powder) only in ur skin shade....loose powder on the other hand is compact powder (there for hard)..........hmmmm u will have to see them in order to understand....
