Why Pakistani people have not taken to the streets?

With polls apparently showing how low President Musharaf’s popularity was, why is it that the people of Pakistan have not taken to streets against the ‘emergency rule’?

Is it because, apart from the terrorists that are hell bent on trying to destroy the nation, Pakistan has never been better than it has in the past 8 years?

Re: Why Pakistani people have not taken to the streets?

may be or maybe they are so worried about the bread that they do not have time to come out.

JFC Fuller writes in conduct of war that the biggest threat to a nation is not the mass movement but refusal of massess to participate in the political process.

Re: Why Pakistani people have not taken to the streets?

People have become hopeless and then the bombing in BB's rally has scared them.

Re: Why Pakistani people have not taken to the streets?

Aalsi this is the most encouraging thing the supporters of Musharaf like you argue that no matter how Musharaf breaks the law and do anti Pakistan actions people do not come to streets....Musharaf and supporters are happy over this....they were very happy when NS reached Islamabad and nobody could come to the airport and now they are very happy that the General has broken world record of imposing Martial law twice in one life time and proof you are giving for his support in public is they are not coming to the street to protest....

Well don't forget people did not come to street when they hanged Bhutto....doesn't mean Zia ul Haq was very popular and his action was popular action....General is the most unpopular leader in the country and in next two weeks is about to become the most condemned leader in the world...far worse than Saddam Hussain.... and you will see that....in next two weeks....just wait Aalsi....wait till Newsweek, Times, Washington post, New York Times write their articles on his actions...

Re: Why Pakistani people have not taken to the streets?

80% of the judges have refused to take oath under PCO. Does that tell you something? Police have arrested hundreds form their homes. Does that say anything?

Re: Why Pakistani people have not taken to the streets?

pessimism, defeatism, activism fatigue, nobody to rally around.

theres dictatorships around the world that succesfully subdue populations. nothing really that unexpected.

That is current news.

4 out of 17 judges in the supreme court refused to bow to the dictator. Must have hurt his inflated ego.

Re: Why Pakistani people have not taken to the streets?

Mawarid bhai, one should look at this in a positive way. This offers opportunities to others that may not have got a chance. People can now make decisions with an open mind by not diluting the 'Legislator' with the 'Executive'.

Re: Why Pakistani people have not taken to the streets?

people in pakistan are only capable of whining about politics at chai dhabas and valima dinners.

Re: Why Pakistani people have not taken to the streets?

With dulha and dulhan turning up 3 to 4 hours late for weddings and walimas, they need something to talk about.

Re: Why Pakistani people have not taken to the streets?

:omg: yes.

they have outsourced democracy to political parties that they are not engaged in themselves. all they do is sit around and complain.

I look forward to reading the Free Press.

Re: Why Pakistani people have not taken to the streets?

artilces do nothing, lets see what actions are taken.

The country went to the brink of emergency earlier and stopped because of the involvement of outside parties who gave a diff recipe.

That recipe was obviously not working and the same players saw that, the current situation happened with complete agreement of the same parties. They may do zubani jama kharch but nothing concrete will be done by them against this action.

Re: Why Pakistani people have not taken to the streets?

bcoz ppl don't want to get beaten or worse killed by the army and police. thats the level of brutality we have in pak under madman mushy.

Re: Why Pakistani people have not taken to the streets?

Vs. the gentle taliban ministry of vice and virtue or the police under NS or BB? Are you that removed from reality?
