Where are we heading?

Pakistan has had more than it’s fair share of problems - however it has never been fighting in so many fronts. I wonder if it is just bad luck or a “sochi samjhi scheme”. Examples of our main issues are (sorry for stating the obvious):

  1. A clear and present danger (terrorism & Talibanisation) yet the public at large does not agree with the danger & the state’s response to it.

  2. An independent yet irresponsible media making sure the confusion of the masses remains and always looking to undermine govts actions.

  3. Foreign hands known to be behind the upsurge and yet no such rhetoric from the govt.

  4. Insurgency in Balochistan and evidence of foreign support.

  5. US links with extremists such as the lal masjid mob, Mehsud etc

  6. Attempts by all to neutralize the security institutions such as ISI / Army.

  7. An unelected person rumoured to be a CIA agent in charge of security.

  8. The economy rapidly plummeting downwards with little reaction from govt.

  9. A lawyers movement that went on relentlessly (where did the funding come from) whilst Musharaf was in charge an yet fizzled out as soon as he left.

  10. Many promises to support the economy yet deliberate delays in delivering (Saudi agrees to deferred payments but stalling unnecessarily when it is required the most).

  11. A president who is known for his greed (can kill his own relatives if reqd) and has no patriotism.

  12. India stops water at a critical time that will affect our crop yield (in the past agriculture has supported the economy when all else has failed).

  13. US thinktanks theories being discussed in media about dismemberment of Pakistan by 2015 (preparing the ground?).

  14. Talibanisation of Karachi.

15.Rumours of GEO owners having links with US / CIA.

  1. US rhetoric about attacking Pakistan (even though good cop bad cop game being played by mainstream parties, both camps want to attack).

  2. The morale of the masses being attacked directly through phenomenae such as load shedding, wheat price hikes etc which did not exist a year ago and therefore must have been created artificially (no drastic changes in population numbers / power consumption).

  3. Chinese engineers being targeted for a long time by Baloch nationalists. US upset with Pakistan over Gwadar’s construction by China and subsequent US base at Pasni (Near Gwadar).

  4. Unprecedented support to India by US despite previous history with Pakistan.

  5. US not allowing Pakistan to mine or fence the Pak Afghan border despite cross border rhetoric. Also no attempt to get Karzai to agree the border with Pakistan (Durand line) which would help both countries to control the border movments.

The most popular theory doing the rounds these days is dismemberment of Pakistan followed by NWFP joining Greater Afghanistan (US Colony), Balochistan being independent (Gas rich underpopulated gateway to Central Asia, US dominated and no China influence) and Punjab and Sindh ceding to India (new found friend of US and enemy of China).

Looking at all the facts stated above, don’t some or all of Musharraf’s “seemingly crazy” steps make sense? eg keeping on supporting the pro Pakistan Jihadis (in case we need them to fight the US), November 3rd steps, his struggle to stay in power, sidelining the lawyer movement, banning GEO, fighting the Baloch insurgency, insistance on making kalabah dam asap, etc. (OK I admit this may be stretching it too far but I am sure he was much more patriotic than any of the curent leadership)

How can we save ourselves from all these seemingly unrelated events leading towards the conclusion predicted by the think tank papers ie dismemberment of Pakistan?

My feeling is - we always unite as a nation when we have our backs to the wall and this quality will save us (through the help of China who neds to keep it’s influence in the region esp Gwadar).

Re: Where are we heading?

some of these reports are not predicting but directing efforts, if you look back over the years these report have surfaced a longtime before anything has happend.

secondly at some point pakistan will have to fight back, which is easier said then done. i'd encourage the pakistani instituitions to fight back aggressively at each conspiracy without mention of it at the political level.

only military strength can assure pakistan of safety now and in the future.

Re: Where are we heading?

An odd way of looking at cause and effect, the implication is that Musharraf was acting to prevent the present problems rather than being the cause himself?

Re: Where are we heading?

Wow...what a list...now we have identify the problems...so we can start solving them one by one... :)

Pakistan is heading towards hell, and thats EXACTLY what its people want, so I have no worries

I want to remain positive abot Pakistan and at the moment I am stll making a huge investment here....pls reassure me i am doing the right thing!!!

Re: Where are we heading?

Pakistan is going through Hell for sure, but its not going to Hell at all. Pakistan needs to get act together and keep fighting back these coward and cunning policies of US and India.

this is major challenge we are facing in Pakistan. Pakistan also should start givin some silent lessons to these double players while they keep blaming Pakistan for not doing enough.

and then sponsoring agents to destablise Pakistan to achieve their objectives. and They will fail inshallah.

Pakistan will be heading towards prosperity and become a modern state under the able and capable leadership of Mr Asif Ali Zardari sahib........

LOL, exactly, what a great list! :cb:

The problems were an aftermath of 9/11. Whether Musharaf was there or not, Pakistan had no choice but to take part in War On Terror. Only thing we could control was the level of our sincerity in this war.

Mush was playing a double game with US. I am not supporting his policies but having been stuck between a rock and a hard place, it is better to have the control in our hands rather than just go with the flow and play in the hands of the enemy.

This double game is now being wrapped up and in my opinion by blindly following the US will in this war, we will lead to destabilisation which is the eventual US aim. The rhetoric against Pakistan has only just started in US media so I think that in a couple of years, it would have generated enough momentum to stir public opinion in favour of direct strikes in Pakistan (as long as the economic and security instability is still there which is being created).

Mush was playing a double game with pretty much everyone..either that or he was just incompetent..he allowed things to deterioate everywhere from FATA to Islamabad...the country is now living with the consequences of his actions and inactions.

Re: Where are we heading?

Good to see you can't think for yourself and more importantly read the US media like the Quran. This is Pakistan we are speaking of. The country that has been written off time and again only to bounce back. 1971? We were written off. No cared for us. 8 years later? Bhutto brought us back.

1999 - We suffered from pressure no other country in the world has ever come under. Billions of dollars thrown our way, promises of support and future aid and god knows what else. We still went ahead with our national interest. We suffered for it and by 1999 we were considered a failed state.

We bounced back for a few years.

2008 - Again considered a fail state. In a situation much worse than before? No. Not much worse than before. Just different. This time around we have issues linked to things that are not in our national interest. It is not in Pakistan's interest to be fighting in Bajaur. It is on our national interest first to define the Durand line. Define that. Then have NATO do their ****ing job and patrol the border on their side and us on our side.

I like it how all you wankers don't show a bit of back bone when it comes to Pakistan's sovereignty and national stature. We are going no where. There are enough people in this country who won't let that happen. No thanks to you doomsayers.

A very rude and insulting reply that was not warranted and only demonstrates the author's true class and intellectual capability.

The world in 2008 is much different to the times of the previous crises, this time the sole superpower is directly engaged in implementing it's agenda in our region with multi dimensional long term objectives to serve it's interests and nor ours. One of it's interests is unfortunately to neutralize our Atomic Bomb.

The only way we can save ourselves from this crisis is to wake up and see what's going on and then do something about it in good time. I am sure we will survive this crisis as soon as the threat becomes more obvious as our nation has the ability to pull together at the time of need. However it is important to consider the doomsday scenarios rather than just bury your head in the sand.

yea right! i cant see it happening though

Do you really believed what I stated?

What about roti kapra makan?

Re: Where are we heading?

If we compare, our neighour India is in much more trouble then we are, yet they are thinking positively,

It is said that, 6 or 7 of their states are heading for separation from GREAT INDIA, Religious violence has spread from Hindu-Musilm to Hindu-Christianity.

The So-Called nuclear deal is now seems to be a Donkey and Carrot kind of situation. US is coming up with all kind of excuses,. The deal is seemingly nothing more than an election stunt from Congress-I.

The good news is, India have become FRIENDS with USA.

Every country has its bad times, this is ours, we have all the problems, yet we are capable enough of tacking them for example:

The new strategy of using tribal Lashkars for hunting down talibans and terrorists is working well, we may soon see the region getting normalized. This is kind of root of all other problems, once it is done, we will see the investors returing back to Pakistan.

AS far as Balochistan is concerned, once northern areas are tackled, the task can be given to the same tribal forces to saf-guard the borders with Afghanistan, hence supply lines will be blocked and the issue will die by itself.

Re: Where are we heading?

Guys...what we doing in here...instead of resolving some problems identified by the author of this thread...we are just perverting...

Try to come up with feasible ideas/potential solutions and mail them to the relevant ministry... :)

Actually, all problems have good solutions, but I do not think that anyone in Pakistan is really interested in solving problems.

Re: Where are we heading?

We are heading towards a future where the Rs. 5000 currency notes will have pictures of Zardari, and Rs. 1000 Altaf (waste of ink).

Even Musharraf? :aq:
