I think by telling you, we sort of defeat the purpose of not telling in the first place, since we run the risk of using this as an opportunity to “gloat” and give ourselves that “Shabash” that we shouldn’t be seeking to begin with.
None the less, I think we have all done things to help others with no personal gain. Its human nature We are preprogrammed to want to help when we can.
Occasionally we choose to ignore someone in need. However I think when we do, its a clash between our more primitive minds and our rational minds. Oddly enough though, I think perhaps its our primitive mind that forces us to act and help, while our rational minds convince us otherwise due to possible repercussions. So for example, a person in Pak may not be willing to help a victim of crime because he reasons that he mitt implicate himself when the police arrive.
But generally I think we are al motivated to help others.
