Re: Shab Barat Divali, Diye Patakhe

Ninja thats our view and I do agree to that, but how can a person living in a particular culture be separated from that culture? Can we claim that the Prophet didn’t follow a single tradition of Arab culture? Did he totally denounced everything related to Arab culture?

Re: Shab Barat Divali, Diye Patakhe

Have you ever heard last names of memon muslims?
Indian muslims shunned their hindu last names might be because a few of hindu names are very insulting at least here in maharshtra...

Re: Shab Barat Divali, Diye Patakhe

Brother is not following islam more important than following culture....

Culture is ever changing but religion is not....

Re: Shab Barat Divali, Diye Patakhe

I don't believe in following blindly a foreign culture on the name of religion. For me water of River Sindh is as sacred as Aab e Zam Zam, because as per Quran patriotism is also part of your faith.

Re: Shab Barat Divali, Diye Patakhe

To you is your din and to me is mine din...............:)

Re: Shab Barat Divali, Diye Patakhe

Re: Shab Barat Divali, Diye Patakhe

Yes I know about memon Muslim and they are a tiny droplet in the vast ocean of Indic [Ind/Pak/BD] Muslims filled with Qureshis, Ansaris, Syeds , Khans, etc .

You are quoting an exception to the rule.

Re: Shab Barat Divali, Diye Patakhe

Yes and i am quite happy that my parents dont carry a hindu name......:)

Re: Shab Barat Divali, Diye Patakhe

I’ll name my son Mehran :snooty:

Re: Shab Barat Divali, Diye Patakhe

sigh

Somebody needs to invent a time machine .

Re: Shab Barat Divali, Diye Patakhe

I am sure you trace your lineage to first cousin of Prophet Muhammad [pbuh] on his mother’s side. So no danger of that :biggthumb:

Re: Shab Barat Divali, Diye Patakhe

Actually this is totally uncalled for…

And even if my forefathers were hindus i am still ahppy we dont carry those hindu names…ok…

Re: Shab Barat Divali, Diye Patakhe

There is no need to drag name of holy Prophet to make a personal attack against me…

Re: Shab Barat Divali, Diye Patakhe

Mr.dronacharya
Muslims of turkey, iran carry cultural name because there is no significant majority of non muslims there...

If you look at chinese muslims who are a tiny majority they have cultural names because they have some insecurities
while indian muslims are not insecure or afraid of displaying their muslim identity thats why they openly carry arabic names....

Re: Shab Barat Divali, Diye Patakhe

[note] Cool down guys. No need to get personal [/note]

Re: Shab Barat Divali, Diye Patakhe

Hattori Sahab,

I am a great fan of your posts and have been diligently reading them these past few days. Even though I find them full of rumors, misconceptions and falsehoods especially wrt India, I desist from replying. But you have made several accusations against me so I must respond in detail.

  1. Attacking you personally: If you read the thread properly you will find that I was posting my observations about Muslims in generic anthropological terms. No where did I brought down the discussion to a personal level. It was you who started with the personal bit in post #49

  2. 'Hindu' surnames: You are making the same error that many other Indians by confusing Indic with 'Hindu'. Generally speaking, the 'Hindu' surnames indicate jati which is not a religious concept but a sociological one. Please do not confuse it with varna which is indeed a religious concept. *Jati *based surnames indicate ones origin rather than religion. This is similar to a tribal affiliation of Pashtuns.

  3. Insulting you: When I studied in Ajmer, I had a large number of Muslim friends. Few of them told me that they traced their lineage directly from Prophet Muhammad [pbuh] and that it was considered a great honor. I don't understand how I insulted you by associating you with his lineage. If you one of those exceptional Indians who trace their lineage to the Prophet, than you should be proud and humbled rather than feel insulted. Just my personal opinion, you can disagree.

  4. Insulting holy Prophet: Huh ? Where did I do that ? Or do you think that Non-Muslims insult him by the very act of talking about him. My apologies if you feel that way.

All my observations seem logical and consistent to me. But perhaps you are right and what seems logical to me is really illogical and I have contracted some weird mental disease because of 'eating the flesh of dead animals' [sic] :)

Re: Shab Barat Divali, Diye Patakhe

I thought Middle-East countries were 99.9% Muslim. Sorry, my fault.

Again my Muslim friends will tell me that you care confusing 'Muslim identity' with Arab identity, and Islam with Arabism. But I will shut up lest you accuse me of insult or discrimination :(

Re: Shab Barat Divali, Diye Patakhe

Just one clarification. When I say Indic Muslims, I refer to Muslims in North India, Bangladesh, W. Punjab and Karachi. AFAIK, Muslims in South India [except Hyderabad], Pashtuns and Sindhis use their native surnames.

Re: Shab Barat Divali, Diye Patakhe

Now read this bold part once again before claiming innocence …Do you know my lineage sir?
because in quote post you seems pretty confident and that is offensive

As far as that thread where i made mistake about sickle cell i accepted my fault in that same thread…

As i dont belong to superior creed and blesses with wisdom of tens of thousand of years; i am prone to making mistakes and believing rumors…

If you find my post based on rumor and misconception you are more than welcome to share your wisdom and clarify my misconception
that will be an honor sir..

P.S.read any of my post i never said you insulted Prophet Muhammad:saw2:
I said dont drag name of holy prophet:saw2:
