Every year, I come across literature distributed at the door of mosques in Shab Barat days, which says that 'ligting mud lamps (Diya) is a Hindu tradition and patakhe (crackers) are also from Hindu mythology in memory of Bhagwana Rama’s return to Ayodhia from Lanka.
By these contentions, Molvi sahibaan distributing such pamphelts start their usual ’ aisa karoge to aag main jalo ge’ and instruct to perfrom this number of Rakaats of nawafil and read a specific dua for specific number of times.
While I don’t personally like the wastage of money on patakhe, etc, but how burning a diya is a Hindu thing? I think, in rural area, where there is no electricity or loadshedding people must be using dia.
Why Patakha is only in memory of Bhagwan Rama… Muslim rulers might be having aatish bazi on different events.
How do you see this practice of offering Nawafil on a particular day and then forget the God for remaining days?
Muslims were the first to harness effective iron rockets… primitive though they were it was a vast improvement to the Chinese and Indian bamboo rockets.
As for light I think Muslims and most people around the world celebrate light as its seen as a force for good against darkness.
I think some Molvis are just making extra excuses… spoilsports they better dare not ban me from firing into the air in celebration. Offourse I tend to use Blank rounds and home made arrows for the ceremonial purpose… cant risk high caliber falls round here… even in the countryside.
I just hate this firing thing on occasions like new year, 14th August… Even recently, there is a trend of firing on chand raat We thanked God when Pakistan lost to India in ICC semi-final last year, because in our aread on every 6 by Pakistan and wicket taken by Pakistan people were firing like hell
BTW ninja, how Shab e Barat is celebrated in India especially in your area? Do you get flavor of Divali?
yes...its firworks and halwa and wht not....we dont celebrate it..but when we were there we saw it all happen. Its more of fun and eating and less of ibadat.
