Re: Raza Gillani elected as PM, Gets 264 votes
If Mushy leaves, it wouldn't matter if Ifti Chaudhri is brought back. Seriously. Except for a few dumb lawyers, pretty much everyone who is shouting to bring back Ifti Chaudhry is just looking at it to get rid of Mushy. If this scenario plays out, then Soomro (or who ever) will take over as President. There will be legal/logistical/constitutional problems to bring back Ifti, and he will be honorably retired. Remember, neither Nawaz Sharif nor Zardari have any interest in bringing back a popular and powerful Chief Justice. This is just way too dangerous a sword and both of them are bitten by a high strung judiciary (remember Sajjad Ali Shah??). Right now, all the talk about restoration of judges is merely a political move in a great game of chess. Don't hold your breath for it to happen. And its not really that important, to be honest.
Faisal bhaijan. At long last someone that understands the bigger picture. God bless you.
Re: Raza Gillani elected as PM, Gets 264 votes
In the larger scheme of things, Amin Fahim is not that important. PPP, in all honesty rotates around a dynasty - the Bhuttos. Plus, with the expected amendments in the constitution, the position of President, will again be made largely ceremonial. So whether Amin Fahim gets seated, or someone else, it will be a low-key, low-profile, largely powerless position.
PPP had a very bad experience once before, when BB's cherry picked Farooq Leghari, used 58-2-B and dismissed her government. If PPP of today is smart, they will not let this loop-hole open. No one, regardless of how loyal, can turn on you, if he has the power.
For the sake of sustained democracy in Pakistani (my personal pet phrase), its ok to give some role to the military in decision-making, whether by NSC or whatever. This can work as a buffer and hopefully can avoid the chainsaw massacre that we see every 2-3 years in the life of a popularly elected government.

Faisal bhaijan. Once again you have understanding of the current situation is well summised. NSC and the Army will continue to play a large role. Another one of great President Musharaf's achievements in creating the NSC.
However, with the armed forces having a big say on the NSC, I would not bet against a Military coup in the future. It is Pakistan we are talking about, where people have no patience.

Re: Raza Gillani nominated as PM
What criminal record he has??? Is he convicted of death caes like Isra-ul-Ibad (Gov of Sindh)? he was politically grabbed when he refused to bow to Musharaf - … he was charged by NAB for recruiting grade -5 persons in Natinal asssembley.. is their merit for such low paying jobs?
NOTE: :nono:
Re: Raza Gillani elected as PM, Gets 264 votes
May it be Yousaf Raza Gillani or any other person, it all ends up how they perform, Zardari want to be a King-Maker rather than a king himself, Every knows the premiereship of Today's Pakistan is not going to be a easy task, restoration of Judges, Price-hike & unavaibility of basic commodities, Heat in FATA and Fear of sucider-attackers.. even on of these problems is provide reason to over-throw any govt. or PM.
In Test Cricket, when batting conditons are not favourable, a Night watchmen is sent, his primary job is to stay as long as possible and let the other end try to do some scoring other wise get over the unfavorable conditions.
Same tactics are being used by Zardari, Gillani has freed the Judges, a lollypop for lawyers and civil soceity and an indication/warning to Gen. Musharaf.
Last not least, If Gillani can stand and work in right direction, there he might be known as most successfull leader of the house. Though i require a back-bone which i don't know Gillani had or not but, this is one of the main requirement for this job.
