The PPP showing their usual contempt for Nawaz Sharif and his MMA buddies, but BB still groping for a deal with Musharraf, despite her recent utterances.
PPP not to attend MMA’s conference
The Pakistan People’s Party has distanced itself from the efforts being made by the Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal and the PML-N for the formation of a grand opposition alliance. Thus the party will not participate in a meeting called by the religious alliance in Islamabad on May 25 and a multi-party conference being hosted by the PML-N in London in June. However, the party’s secretary-general Raja Pervaiz Ashraf told Dawn on Sunday that other parties in the ARD were free to take their own decisions about the two meetings keeping in view their interests and requirements of the prevailing situation. According to MMA President Qazi Husain Ahmed, all opposition parties, including the PPP, are being invited to the May 25 meeting which he hoped would lay the foundation of a grand opposition alliance to launch a movement against the government. He said the religious alliance wanted all opposition parties to struggle from a common platform to mount pressure on Gen Musharraf to quit so that free and fair elections could be held under the supervision of an interim government of national consensus. The proposed broad-based alliance, he said, should also make concerted efforts to annul all amendments made to the Constitution after the October 1999 coup.
Any party which did not attend the MMA-sponsored May 25 moot would isolate itself, Qazi Husain said in an obvious reference to the PPP’s decision to stay away. After the Islamabad meeting, he said, the opposition parties would also attend a multi-party conference being hosted by exiled former prime minister Nawaz Sharif in London some time next month. PPP-Parliamentarians secretary-general Raja Pervaiz Ashraf said his party could not trust the MMA because of its track record and, therefore, would not participate in the religious alliance’s May 25 meeting. “They have their agenda, and we have ours,” said the PPP leader, complaining that the MMA was responsible for sealing the political fate of Ms Bhutto and Mian Nawaz Sharif by supporting an amendment which barred them from going for a third term as prime ministers.
Asked what would be the justification for the PPP to stay away from a conference being organised by Mr Sharif in London, Raja Pervaiz Ashraf said the PML-N leader had not consulted the PPP before taking a decision to hold the meeting. Secondly, he said, since the MMA would be present at the London conference, the PPP would like to stay away. The PML-N’s conference is also aimed at uniting all opposition parties for a movement to oust Gen Musharraf. Replying to a question, Raja Pervaiz said parties in the ARD were aware of the PPP’s thinking about the MMA and it was for them to decide whether to participate in a conference being called by the coalition of religious parties or to invite them to theirs.

Re: PPP again refuse to attend Nawaz and MMA conferences
PPP-PML-N political differences intensifying
The “political rivalry” between the PPP and the PML-N has never stopped; instead, it grows after every statement by their exiled leaders. The rivalry is on principles. The PPP always tried to tell the PML-N that it had to obey the decisions being taken at ARD meetings, as it is irked by the latter’s inclination towards the MMA, especially the JI leaders. In return, the PML-N leaders are perturbed over reports of a “deal” or an “understanding” between the PPP and President Musharraf. The political rivalry was always at its peak from the day one and it somewhat slowed down when Shaukat Aziz stood for the post of prime minister. The PPP had nominated Makhdoom Amin Fahim as its joint opposition candidate. The dust was settled then. But in the first place, when Mir Zafarullah Khan Jamali was nominated as candidate for the premiership, the party had nominated Fahim as its candidate, but the PML-N did not support him and the PPP had to replace Fahim with Shah Mehmood Qureshi. The level of trust between the two parties was never so high; therefore, the ARD could not be converted into an election alliance. Keeping in view the political differences between the two major components in the alliance, it is clear that both the parties might contest the coming elections in their individual capacities.
The gap between the PPP and the PML-N widened further when in an ARD meeting in Lahore, the PPP rejected a call by the MMA to observe a day of protest on Monday (today) against the Karachi incidents. The PPP was of the view that all the calls and meetings from the ARD platform would be entertained and decisions taken by the ARD would be obeyed. In the same meeting, the PML-N leaders again supported the MMA’s call and tried their best to woo the PPP into participating in the protest. But PPP leaders refused to even send its common leaders. The PPP leaders are of the view that allying with the PML-N is not beneficial as the Nawaz League has an inclination towards the JI, the arch rival of the PPP. Also, on the one hand it was in the ARD, while on the other it enjoys good relations with the MMA. The PPP wanted to make the ARD a bigger alliance as compared to the MMA as it has 13 parties, while the MMA has only six religo-political parties. But one thing is clear that problems in the ARD are increasing manifold with every passing day.

I didn't like ZAB that much for a lot of things he did, but he sure was a lot better than that the murderer Zia-ul-Haq who succeeded him. BB should continue to seek a deal with the enlightened moderate forces and keep her distance from MMA nutjobs and Zia's children like Nawaz.

He also did some good things for Pakistan like start our nuclear programme, promote the closest relations with the Muslim world we ever had, and an independent foreign policy all round. This was the same time when Zia ordered the killing of 10,000 Palestinian's in Jordan.
Enlightended moderation over religious extremists anytime.

Jaani, the nuclear program was started by Ayub Khan in the 50's with the creation of Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission, under which thousands of engineers, scientists and technicians went abroad for training and education...the nuclear explosions that Pakistan conducted in '98 were planned, organized and carried out by PAEC not Bhattu created KRL...Do read up on Pakistan's nuclear history...

Where did you find those figures, the same ones that list the 3 million bengalis killed in the genocide commited by the brave and drunken Pak Army...Or the ones that only a few days ago cited 11 MQM workers killed when only 1 funeral was carried out...Better yet, is it the same source that cites 5000 Pakistani regulars killed in the Kargil Ops, planned by that military genius Mush...
Secondly, regardless of how many he killed...kudos to Zia for sending those secular degenerates to hell, they deserved it, their head-degenerate was an Israeli agent to begin with...

Haha...and what's wrong with living in Amreeka...unlike the fascist state run by Mush and his MQM SS foot-soldiers...Amreeka for the most part practices what it preaches only domestically and allows for dissent...
