Pakistani films as also rest of media cannot move till people show respect for artists particularly female. On gupshup i read a large no of derogatery comments about an actress, reena, going on haj,After so called 9 man chuhe kha ke.This is in bad taste & sad,.In india we cannot think of any body writing about Aishwaria for example in this manner..
very true, as a culture indians really respect and encourage arts and artists overall and it shows. we unfortunately, are still stuck in the dark ages, where the industry and its artists are considered less than respectable, our own attitudes also need revamping before we whine and complain, or just zip it.
so the solution to the current malaise is to remake "classics" that featured 24 songs and a 45 year old actor whose character is still trying to finish high school?
if this is what the revival of the filam industry means, I would rather that it stay dead.
There is nothing wrong with making a remake if it is done the proper way. Yes most of our old movies are all formula films. Most of them look exactly the same and sound exactly the same but then, why were they so successful? Because formula made the proper way can be a huge success.
The biggest example of a well-done formula film is DDLJ. It is not a new concept, it is not a new story. But the screenplay, the dialogue and the music make the difference for that movie.
And if you need examples of successful remakes, look at Don and Devdas. And for bollywood to make those remakes was extremely risky because of the countless comparisons of Shahrukh to Dilip and Amitabh.
Old Pakistani movies are rarely even shown on television these days so they are not even a part of our new generation. A remake would already have the credibility to get people to come to the theatres. At least there will be some guarantee of a story than just a "maar dhaar se bharpoor shahkaar"!
Choose actors in terms of suitability..fresh faces if possible
You are referring to hit movies not classics. There are some incredible movies in 40’s, 50’s and early 60’s that have been totally ignored. Recently I took to watching these films and was impressed with their sophisticated storylines e.g. one film was about an old lady narrating her grand-daughter’s misfortunes in life when she made friends with those people belonging to high society where drugs, alcohol shameful acts were in vogue…for a remake you simply need to make such a movie relevant to today’s times and situations.
Interestingly Sabiha Sumar of ‘Khamosh Pani’ fame is making a film titled ‘Rafina’ about a lower class girl trying to make it as a fashion model in an english-speaking world of upper class ego-driven people. Finally, someone with sense!
There is a huge difference between what Shoaib Mansoor (KKL) or Ms. Sumar's docu-drama or even Ayesha (Kashf) in New York or Mehreen's "Ramchand Pakistani" are concerned....
A COMMERCIAL film is the right of the producer and investor---but since we do not have a huge market comparatively to our neighbors----its absolutely useless to wail and weep on the POOR quality of our movies.
We appear to be quite happy with GUJJARs and JEERAs and DAKU titles at the self proclaimed HEADQUARTERS of Pak-Movies...and during my recent visit to the heart of my country---for experience sake I went to a cinema right in the heart of Laxmi Chowk---where---unbelievably---I saw HOUSEFULL sign on DAKU RANI.
So my friends (and foes) let's forget about comparative issues or the deeds of Shoman, Mehreen, Ms. Sumar, Ayesha or Mr. Dehalvi...... let's focus on how Pakistani Film Industry can recoupe itself and find its lost glory.......not at the Multan Road studios but in Karachi....
agreed. the blueprint for future Pakistani cinema should be films like Khamosh Pani, Ramchand Pakistani, etc. enough of the musicals and the love stories, PLEASE!!!
Ramchand was no masterpiece but at least it was different… there was a real story there. Khamosh Pani, on the other hand, I do think is a masterpiece. wish one of Bushra Ansari or Saba Pervez were in it as the director had originally planned…
maybe I’m getting cranky in my old age but I have zero patience for Bollywood style musicals or the so-called “classics” from the (non-existent) “golden age” of Pakistani cinema.
saw it a couple of days back. would be hilarious if it wasn’t also so sad…
Shaan is an idiot. love how he talks when he shows up on TV… one would think that we’re watching a Daniel Day-Lewis/Scorsese 2-in-1 combo pack given how arrogantly he talks about the trash he calls his artistic work.
there are tons of ppl who do garbage work in our filam indushtry… but the ones who do the most damage to it are the delusional ones who actually believe they’re doing great work… e.g., Syed Noor, Javed Fazil, Shaan, Ajab Gul, etc…
actually I got that wrong... I hadn't seen the whole thing. I'd seen the clip when Shaan is praying and the bullets keep missing him... but not the whole thing.
anyway, so retarded... what a thorough embarrassment...
Khamosh Pani was simply amazing…Bushra Ansari was approached to do the role that Kiron Kher eventually got. Once again Bushra Ansari has been offered a role in Sumar’s next film - hope she accepts.
The following (long) interview with Sabiha Sumar identifies some of the key reasons why the state of cinema in pakistan is so miserable:
actually I got that wrong... I hadn't seen the whole thing. I'd seen the clip when Shaan is praying and the bullets keep missing him... but not the whole thing.

Same is happening with Pakistani Film Industry itself--in Lahore!
Thank you krazym3 for showing that interview with sabiha kumar.A few years back I saw an interview with Reema where she was complaining of being reviled as a bad girl though she is a devout muslim.Icould not help airs of our own superstar Madhuri how she would look compared to weeping of reema.Something wrong with society if it cannot see khamosh pani which I saw in india & canada....Agood film.

..and this is our current Film Industry.. unless and untill we have good writers, producers and directors, Shaan will continue to miss bullets, Moamer shall continue to fight-off 20 bad guys with one Laathi, and Saima shall continue wearing her lacha's and dance.
Work, movies and clips like this are an open invitation for anyone to make fun and ridicule.. and then they cry a river of how the 'awaam' makes fun and doesn't appreciate their 'work'.
Artists all over are selective about the movies they work in..
I beg to disagre3 with you the account that you lack talent.I have seen ptv dramas & i think that Rohit & sahra kazmi, marina khan, shehzad sheikh, badr, nadeem sayeed, arifa, siddiqiabid ali,etc are among the best talent in the world. If they were in India they would have been national heroes.Something is wrong in the society that they cannot show their talent in pak movies.Read sabiha kummar,s interview & you will get the answers.I am amazed that khamosh pani has still not been released in pakistan & this is probably the best film you have produced.I have seen it in india & abroad. How can you then expect good films?

Pl read my message & pander over it.Reply if you feel.
When the firangis do that(as in Matrix), that’s simply superb , amazing and slick but when our desi dudes do that, its all crap and bakwas. . . . .
what judgement. .
Khamosh pani was a drab fest- it was more of a tele film. The only saving grace were some witty dialogues, translated by shoaib hashmi.
In the current lot , Syed Noor has produced some excellent films like jeeva and sargam. they were commercially successful as well. I think we need smart directors like him and sajjad gul.
