Pakistan's film industry is in collapse!

Re: Pakistan's film industry is in collapse!

Waheed Murad was the only super star our film industry has had. He had a lot of screen charisma and I personally love his style of song picturization. there might be better actors in our film industry but waheed surpassed them in terms of popularity.

I was thinking about ppl like Qazi Wajid, Saleem Nasir, Subhani Bayounis, Mehmood Ali, etc.. who I feel were all much better actors than Wahid Murad or any film actor for that matter.

Re: Pakistan's film industry is in collapse!

^ they're indeed great actors but the film industry did not utilize their talent. tv did.

very true. there is a big difference between actors and stars, an actor is lead by his performance and a star will simply steal the scene as soon as he enters it. waheed murad was a true film star in this sense, its his name and face which drew the crowds into the theaters like nobody else could. thats what our films are lacking now amongst other factors.

lots of our brillinat tv actors were not so successful on the big screen even though they became big tv icons, ppl like asif raza meer, shakeel, shafi muhammad shah etc.

HOLY RAVIOLI....you call these guys WAHEED MURAD's peers!
You compare THEIR acting to WAHEED MURAD's.......................
That's just like comparing REEMA to her peer JULIA ROBERTS
OR SHAAN to his peer TOM CRUISE !!!

I don't understand your point at all... Reema and Shaan are Pakistani and Julia Roberts, Tom Cruise are American. whereas Waheed Murad and Qazi Wajid/Saleem Nasir, etc were all Pakistanis.

but yeah, it is unfair to the likes of Qazi Wajid, Saleem Nasir, etc. to compare them to Waheed Murad. Saleem Nasir was a real actor who performed many different roles. he played the effeminate Akbar just as well as he played the dignified Capt. Sarwar Shaheed or the magnificent Sultan Jalaluddin. same goes for Qazi Wajid. they played many different characters with ease and gave many unforgettable performances.

compared to them, Waheed Murad only played himself. Waheed Murad played Waheed Murad as do all "filam stars" in our part of the world. they're not actors... they're stars. and they're allowed to get away with it because the concept of filam in the subcontinent is juvenile and borderline retarded.

either way, I have nothing against Waheed Murad. he was a good looking man who obviously had a lot of fans. what I do have a problem with is this idea that the 60s and 70s were the golden period for Pak filam industry. the Pak filam industry never had a golden period. it was rubbish right from the start and that includes Waheed Murad, Mohammad Ali, Nadeem, etc. and it is still rubbish.

Everyone has their own take on identifying the Pakistani Film Industry's (PFI) 'Golden Age', personally I too felt that the quality of films during 60's and 70's were not top notch.

However, in terms of popularity and good business - these 2 decades proved to be most successful ($$$$) and were indeed a golden age to some extent.

BUT...We must quit the nostalgia and focus on the **future **of the industry because looking at 70's musicals for inspiration wont take us anywhere!

Re: Pakistan's film industry is in collapse!

Holy Ravioli?

Uncle, no one uses that anymore...

REALLY....?

HOLY RAVIOLI...cant believe it :)

While I am not much bothered about the $$$$$$ bit....I do but fully agree otherwise!! as we had the BEST entertainment and since I have been a king of movie goers....I know what I am saying and what the member say's above!
Spot on!

Re: Pakistan's film industry is in collapse!

Indian movies are all over our cinemas now. I never thought I would say this but I would really like to see Shaan and Reema on a movie board rather than all those Indian actors. The question is why can't ARY digital promote a Pakistani movie once in a while after say 10 Indian moies it has been promoting now a days.

Even Katrina Kaif's dress was given as a present in Shaista Wahidi's show.

Where have the Pakistani movie makers gone? :(

^ Property dealing in the UAE.

Indus Vision was showing some movie from the 60's era with Nadeem.. I couldn't see anything "golden" there as much as I tried. Same rich dad, bigiri aulaad..pyar mohabbat..zalim samajh..rona dhona. Goli kha ke marna.

Re: Pakistan's film industry is in collapse!

Instead of spending money to buy expensive indian films, our film folks should invest money in producing quality films in pakistan. don't like indian films being shown in pakistan.

PATHETIC..PATHETIC..PATHETIC..PATHETIC..
PATHETIC..PATHETIC..D.I.S.G.U.S.T.I.N.G....TO THE CORE!!!!
HOLLOW SHAM !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

SHABASH.........Pakistan Zindabad!
Keep that spirit flying high.....!!

Re: Pakistan's film industry is in collapse!

Pakistan film industry has made a lot of commercially successful fims that were quite bold. I'm surprised at the audacity and creativity of our film makers for producing films like zarqa, society girl and anjuman (to name a few). even today people would be relcutant to work on such subjects.
although, we are in shambles now but if we make a comparison with films from across the border, I believe in the past we were making better films.

Re: Pakistan's film industry is in collapse!

Remakes of pakistani classic films is also an option....they shouldnt waste their time and money remaking stuff like Devdas, its been done to death. No harm in taking a classic and putting your own stamp on it - a good cast and high budget is required though.

Pakistani films as also rest of media cannot move till people show respect for artists particularly female. On gupshup i read a large no of derogatery comments about an actress, reena, going on haj,After so called 9 man chuhe kha ke.This is in bad taste & sad,.In india we cannot think of any body writing about Aishwaria for example in this manner..

Thank God...you were not around to see the treatment meted out to some female TV artiste of Pakistan.....earlier this year and last! :)

Indian artists aren't as touchy as ours happen to be, if u're in showbiz u will be spoken about.. u will be in the papers. Just like Meera's bikini shots being spread all over the news and net who's going to blv her when she says "I'm taking pictures with u, please don't distribute them"

It's like the models taking bold pictures and them being printed, if u're in the limelight u will be spoken about. Indian actresses are insulted, mocked as well.. they take it with grace!

If u've done wrong and disgraced the industry only u're industry-folks will shove it under the carpet and try to 'hush hush' the issue..
