People are learning to rehash old names with a twist. “My friend Bootz is a cool cat. Though his parents would prefer to call him Muhammad Boota from Toba Tek Singh.” Crude example, but you get the idea.
We, as a community, go through fashion phases. Old does make a come back every now and then.
back in the days it was important for people what the name means. People cared about the *taseer *of the names. There was a concept of heavy names and light names etc. Meaning of the name really mattered to people. Now it just has to be cute.
i had an English professor at AligaRh Muslim University and his name was Dr. MK Lodhi. we always wondered what his initials stand for. one day we found that out and we laughed our heads off.
MK Lodhi = Munne KhaaN Lodhi
those types of names like Munne, Shabraati, Ramzaani etc have almost disappeared...although they do exist as NICKS/aliases.

i know one kawaRu bhai...might be related to old currecy unit kawaRi..
though kawaRu is a rural hindu name but this kawaRu bhai is a muslim
BTW ever heard names like Paikan Bi,Majan Bi...
Bi as last name
Bi is short for BIBI...this last name is now used more like a title [Bibi = lady/sister....for Benzir Bhutto...as an example]...also it's used for older people like Bibi ammaaN, Bibi Khaala, baRii Bi etc
