Outdated / Out of Fashion names

Re: Outdated / Out of Fashion names

But have you really heard names like Ram Ali? There are names without religious connection. Names related to land. As Hindus name their children Ganga, Sindhis (Muslims as well Hindus) named their daughters Sindhu.

Re: Outdated / Out of Fashion names

of course NOT! they are more like nicks or names given by illiterate parents...also names like budhhan, budhai, jume'raatii, peeru, mangla, itwaarii, jumman, shukkar, etc

mere ek jaanne waale haiN gaaoN meN unkaa nick-name "bechoo" hai...story yeh hai k unkii vaalidah ke 8 bachche huye magar vo sabhii bachpane men hii mar gaye...to, unko kisii baba/faqeer ne bataayaa k agar vo apni agli aulaad ko sirf "naam ke liye" bech deN to vo bachcha bach jaayegaa...unki vaalidah ne aisaa hii kiyaa...apne maamuuN ke haath Rs.1 meN bech diyaa is samjhaute ke saath ke jab bachcha baRaa ho jaayegaa to vo use vaapas le leNgii Rs. 1 de kar...

...aisaa hii huaa...7 saal ke ba'd Rs. 1 de kar bachchaa vaapas le liyaa...vo bachchaa aaj koii 40 baras kaa hai lol...

...jihaalat kii bhii koii Had hai na Hisaab....apnaa iimaan zaay'a kar liyaa.

Re: Outdated / Out of Fashion names

sounds so familiar :hmmm:

They used to give children names like ‘Mirch’, ‘Basar (Piyaz)’ if earlier children died in infancy.

This kharid o farokht story is still followed in our Nanihaal, but at the time of khatna of boys :smack:

Re: Outdated / Out of Fashion names

Aanisa Jahan Ara Batool Begum.... Good that such names don't exist any more

What is the deal with Shahid Kapoor btw. Is the guy Muslim or Hindu?

Re: Outdated / Out of Fashion names

his father is a Hindu...his famous show was "office office" [a comedy show]...his mother is a Muslim. so he is half Muslim half Hindu lol

Re: Outdated / Out of Fashion names

my mom's last name was "nisaaN"...i kinda miss those names!

Re: Outdated / Out of Fashion names

How about Peeno ?

Re: Outdated / Out of Fashion names

I think the last person with Aara in her name will be Shamim Aara. Sadly she is on her death-bed and has been in a coma for months. :(

What does Aara mean ?

Re: Outdated / Out of Fashion names

Same here…i named one of my twins after a prophet’s name and his dadi & tayas did not like it one bit and said “bahot purana aur thahkaava naam hai”… :smack:

Re: Outdated / Out of Fashion names

My nani’s name is Zainab Begum

Re: Outdated / Out of Fashion names

Or what about adding "unissa" to the ends of names....My nana & nani named their 4 daughters:

Najamunissa
Raffatunnisa
Iffatunnisa
Mehboobunissa

And then they all add "ghar ke naam" that they were called by everyone..lol...mighty confusing!

My great grand nani’s name, believe it or not, was Qadeem-un-Nisa. That means old woman. When she was a new born baby, her parents named her ‘Old Woman’. :smack:

But just to be fair, she died a very old woman. She became a great great grand mother before passing away.

Re: Outdated / Out of Fashion names

I think it’s a full name. Muhammad boota. These days people want to go for modern Islamic names. Every one wants to be unique, have unique phones and the same thing applies to the names of children.

Re: Outdated / Out of Fashion names

Khanum also.

Re: Outdated / Out of Fashion names

Musarat. I hate this name a lot.

Re: Outdated / Out of Fashion names

BooTaa is usually a Sikh name...often a Hindu name as well.
