Gone are the days, when people use to name their children Bhagbhari, Shabratan, Naseeban, etc

Today, people are reluctant to name their children as Razia, Fozia, Rukhsana, Shabana, etc

What are the reasons behind this shift. Why some names are popular for centuries and other becomes outdated with the passage of time?

Because these names are given to the naukars in Pakistani Dramas.

I named my son after a prophet’s name…everyone in Pak didn’t like it. They said yeh tou budhon wala naam hai, kisi new dramay Kay hero ka naam rakhna tha. :rolleyes:

:eek: While Names like Yusuf, Ibrahim, Dawood, Suleman are still common,I never heard anyone naming their children ‘Hood’ or ‘Nuh’

aajkal yeh nayaa fashion chalaa hai k naam unke bachche kaa "UNIQUE" honaa chaahiye bhale hii vo naam unke ethnicity meN muravvij ho yaa na ho yaa un naamoN ke ma'aanii achchhe hoN yaa na hoN. aap haiN to desi magar naam rakkh deNge kisii yugoslavian kaa yaa kisii Turkish kaa...aajkal yeh bahot 'aam hai k log naam sun kar poochhte haiN k bhai yeh kis zabaan kaa naam hai aur iskaa matlab kia hai?

west meN rahne waaloN ne apne naamoN kii spelling hii badal Daali jisse us naam kii asl hii badal jaatii hai jaise....soraya [sounds like a Philipino name] instead of Suraiyaa...Rahimtoola for RaHmat Ullah etc.

hatta k maiN ne musalmaanoN ke naam HinduoN ke dekhe aur sune haiN...

If I was unmarried, I would not mind marrying a Zamarrud Begum, if she was beautiful and rich. I would then call her Zimmi darling. Problem solved.

Last name begum is gone it was pretty common 60 years ago....

After Parveen Shakir, the name Parveen also become outdated :(

last names to zaat paat yaa 'ilaaqaa'iyat kii vajah se/chakkar meN to yaksaaN mil jaayeNge jaise:

i don’t think this is the names given by parents…more like acquired name for some personal reason…

…desides, these are exceptions than norms. you can’t bring a few names and try to make it as if it’s the norm…i’ve lived in India and have never seen/heard such names.
