Normal delivery after Caesarean (VBAC) in Karacahi

Hi,
I had a Caesarean with my first child in Karachi : Obviously the doctor didn’t want to wait and started saying it was fetal distress. At that time I didn’t know otherwise I would have never had them do a Caesarean. Now with my second child I really really REALLY want to have a normal delivery. The problem is that now I have a huge problem trusting doctors in Karachi. Can anyone tell me if they had a VBAC and which doctors are supportive of VBACs in Karachi.
Would appreciate your reply.

Re: Normal delivery after Caesarean (VBAC) in Karacahi

How much is the gap between your kids gonna be? That is a major factor in determining if you're a good candidate, plus whether you had a horizontal or vertical incision, scar tissue adhesions, also you can't be induced while attempting a vbac. A baby in opmy extended family passed away while the mother insisted on attempting vbac a year after c-sec so I would be very wary. God forbid a uterine rupture may lead to serious problems. So whilst a normal delivery is always preferable, only attempt vbac if you are a good candidate under the supervision of a very good doctor.

Re: Normal delivery after Caesarean (VBAC) in Karacahi

I'm not pregnant right now. I'm just planning. The gap would be around 24 months. I know that there should be an 18 month gap. The incision is vertical. I understand you can't be induced while having a vbac. I've done alot of research into this. Uterine ruptures are also very rare. The thing is I don't know is which doctor to choose now. Do you know of any doctors who are supportive of vbacs?
I've also heard of people having 3 caesarean and a normal with the fourth because they ended up delivering at home. I'm not saying that will always work out but there's a possibility . Doctors are just pro-Caesarean these days.

Re: Normal delivery after Caesarean (VBAC) in Karacahi

I have no idea about vbac supportive doctors either in Karachi or lahore.

Where did you have delivered your first child?

Re: Normal delivery after Caesarean (VBAC) in Karacahi

First of all, the doctor may have been right and the baby may have been in distress. You would have taken a very big risk, had you not let the doctor do a c-section then. Lack of oxygen to the baby can cause brain damage, who knows what other complications may arise.
I had an emergency c-section with my first child and I was being monitored. I dont know about Karachi but doubt that the doctor can just say without any monitoring that the baby is in distress. My baby's heartbeat was being monitored when I was induced.

On the other hand, a friend's siter (she is a doctor herself) once stopped some tests for her relative at Aga Khan hospital telling them the tests were not necessary (the tests would have only added to the cost) but again she is a doctor and knew what she was doing.
So I can understand your lack of trust but please do not just assume that any and every doctor wil try to do a c-section un-necessarily.

Also you need to know if the incision on uterus is also vertical or just the outside. Vertical incision on uterus has increased chances of rupture.

Sorry no recommendations for any doctor.

Try Aga Khan hospital. Also Dr Parveen Kanji is very good.

At Hillpark Karachi

Re: Normal delivery after Caesarean (VBAC) in Karacahi

I say that I don't trust the doctor because she didn't even check to see the babies heartbeat . As soon as she came in the labor room she checked the dilation and then shaked her head as if saying it isn't 10 c.m. and then prepared for the operation. When the babies report was attached with other papers at the time of discharge it wasn't the correct report as when I was in the labor room the ctg report was very small. They just attached a fake one.
Also my sister in law talked to the nurse. She mentioned that she had given me some medication (injection). It was days after that my sister in law (who is a doctor) said that the medication she had given was... believe it or not... to slow down labor pains.
Doctors are soooo untrustworthy these days.

Re: Normal delivery after Caesarean (VBAC) in Karacahi

She is also in south city? Do you know if she does vbacs or do You know anyone who has had a normal delivery after Caesarean with her?

Re: Normal delivery after Caesarean (VBAC) in Karacahi

The outside is horizontal and the incision is low? Does that mean it won't be horizontal internally?

Re: Normal delivery after Caesarean (VBAC) in Karacahi

I had a vbac and I support your decision of trying for vaginal birth. All I want to say is be prepared in case you have to have an emergency c-section again. You will be taking a risk if the doctor says you need to and you decline thinking doctor is wrong.
May be you can have your SIL with you at the hospital so she can understand and guage the situation.

You wrote earlier that the incision is vertical. Now you wrote it is horizontal.
Vertical incision on uterus (not outside) has more chances of rupture. Check your report if it says about the incision.

Re: Normal delivery after Caesarean (VBAC) in Karacahi

Thanks for the reply!
I accidentally wrote vertical in the beginning. The incision is horizontal on the outside, shouldn't it then be horizontal in the inside too? The report didn't really say anything about the incision.
My SIL did say she would be there insha'Allah at the time of my delivery

Can you please let me know which doctor did your vbac... Thanks

Re: Normal delivery after Caesarean (VBAC) in Karacahi

I don't know about Vbac but she's a very reputable doctor with experience. If you are a good candidate for Vbac she might be able to advise and help.

How old are you youngmom? Recently, a relative went in to discuss vbac in islamabad n she was told that age plays a role too and she's not a good candidate coz she's 32. Her first baby was at 29.

Re: Normal delivery after Caesarean (VBAC) in Karacahi

I am hearing about the age factor playing a role in vbac or the first time.

Yes, me too. Supposedly she went to a real good dr in Islamabad. I'll ask her again the whole reason behind age

Re: Normal delivery after Caesarean (VBAC) in Karacahi

What's the.doctors name?

Re: Normal delivery after Caesarean (VBAC) in Karacahi

Yes if the outside incision is horizontal, uterus incision should be horizontal as well. May be the operative report, and not your discharge report, will have this information. My doctor requested the operative report from my previous hosiptal. She said she cannot allow vbac until she sees and confirms the report. I am in US.

When you are ttc or pregnant, meet and discuss with as many doctors until you find the one you are satisfied with.

So the dr is Islamabad had said there's more chance of rupture as the age increases and since healing is slow, there's other complications. That's all my relative was told and was convinced not to go that route. I wonder if anyone else was told the same?
