Also, Busharaf may not even have any time to deal with cricket affairs due to other problems facing him i.e. Chief Justice issue, Tribal areas, Baluchistan etc and therefore wants his 'chamcha' to carry on.

It is the typical dramay baazy of Pakistani system. The ulloo ka pa**a resigned but no one in the nation knows whether it was accepted or rejected. No mainstream media release from the Prez's office.

Is ko kehtay hain ek teer sey do shikaar. Since CPB chariman is appointed is by General Sahab himself so ofcourse people he is close to are the ones who get the post. Now Nasim Ashraf resigned to show that he had some shame and wanted to show that he is taking responsibility for the team's performance. He probably contacted General Pervez beforehand and told him not to accept the resignation.
He had openly stated before the cup that he had just taken over 5 months ago and should not / could not be held responsible if Pakistan performed poorly. Which to me is a fair enough statement, no one can perform miracles in 5-6 months. But the way he has run things in those few months are nothing short of ordinary. Selectors not selecting Shoaib on fitness grounds and PCB chairman takes one look at him and decides he is fit enough. The South African tour was a joke. First Umar Gul was taken to South Africa when he was injured, then an injured Shoaib was called to replace the injured Gul and when injured Shoaib broke down in the first innings of a test he was replaced by the injured Shabbir!!!!! WTF. What kinda managment is this ? Unless he actually takes the advice of former greats, (mainly Imran) we can just keep on hoping for more mediocre results in the future as well.

Ashraf’s resignation rejected
Pervez Musharraf, the Pakistan president, has rejected the resignation of Nasim Ashraf, the PCB chairman, who offered to leave his role following Pakistan’s early elimination from the World Cup.
Ashraf had only been at the helm for five months, after taking over from Shaharyar Khan who stood down in October. “President Pervez Musharraf rejected the resignation of Nasim Ashraf today,” said Aamir Bilal, a PCB media advisor, “and directed him to continue his duty to rebuild the Pakistan cricket team on modern and professional lines.”
Ashraf thanked the president for showing confidence in him and said: “I will continue to endeavour my best for the development and progress of cricket in Pakistan.” Ashraf also expressed deep gratitude to all cricket lovers, the general public and well-wishers for their continued support over the last week.
He added: “I promise a revamp a transparent cricket set-up and will implement short and long term action plans immediately. They will be shared with the public through the media in a press conference to be held at Gaddafi Stadium on Saturday afternoon.”
However, despite Ashraf’s retention Pakistan cricket remains in a major state of flux. They still need to appoint a new captain and coach to replace Inzamam-ul-Haq and Bob Woolmer, while the selection committee also resigned following the team’s poor showing in the Caribbean
