ISLAMABAD- An arrogant Chairman Pakistan Cricket Board Dr Nasim Ashraf picked a brawl with a senior journalist, Saleh Zaafir, when the latter asked a question referring to a Supreme Court decision regarding resignation of officials.
The journalists present on the occasion were shocked to note the frustrated and angry response by the PCB Chairman who had recently resigned over the humiliating defeat of Pakistan in the World Cup. The President however rejected his resignation.
** “Shut up,” Nasim shouted in an indecent haste.
“ I won’t spare you,” Nasim threatened Saleh Zaafir.
**The shocking incident took place in the Prime Minister Secretariat where dignitaries were present at the launching ceremony of third MDGs Report 2006.
Paying in the same coin, Saleh Zaafir exchanged harsh words with Nasim Ashraf.
Zaafir also asked Nasim how he became the PCB Chairman when he did not know how to carry a bat.

Zaafir, who is himself an enthusiastic amateur cricketer, frequently plays for the team of his newspaper.
This is the second time in two weeks that one of Musharraf’s hand-picked ‘dignitaries’ had used indecent language against the media persons. Earlier, Federal Law Minister, Wasi Zafar used abusive language against a journalist and later on apologized.
It was not immediately known why was Nasim so harsh and abusive towards media persons and veteran Pakistani cricket stars.
Nasim, who himself flaunts a US citizenship, repeatedly questioned the patriotism of the veteran cricket players who won laurels for the country. He described them as “ not true Pakistanis” and “anti-state elements”. He said they were “harming the national interests”. However, he did not explain what he meant by “the national interests.”
He termed Sarfraz Nawaz as “ bazari banda (a third class notorious man)”. He insisted the journalists to print the words that he was using against Sarfraz Nawaz, who is also the President of PML-Q Sports Wing.
Nasim Ashraf also described Senator Enwer Beg, a PPP politician as a “liar” and claimed whatever he (Enwer Beg) was saying was baseless and wrong.
Nasim Ashraf said that those who claim that match-fixing was done should come out with proofs as they were “harming national interest.”
On his resignation issue, he said that he tendered his resignation on moral grounds to the President and if the President Musharraf did not accept it, he would continue his job.
He also rejected the impression that he himself wanted to continue as PCB chairman and in this regard was pressurizing the concerned quarters.
Nasim Ashraf declined that any Pakistani player was involved in Bob Woolmer’s murder and the government has constituted a committee comprising a trio, an ambassador, a senior investigation officer and a PCB representative who would fly to Jamaica to help the investigators in this regard.
