Moms 2012- 2013

Re: Moms 2012- 2013

Aww Demese and Wendy  hope you two feel better soon..

Poor girls.. take your vits and stuff… Alhamdulillah se, I have survived the cold and flu season and i do think its cus of the million vits and supplements the hubz makes me have..

Wendy, the pain may be earlier this time cus you’ve got a little one already that you need to run after.. first pregnancies are so different cus you can concentrate on yourself (to a limit).. with consecutive pregnancies, you’ve got so much else going on before u even get a chance to think about yourself and bubba to be…

Re: Moms 2012- 2013

i am not taking any vits sadz, what should i do? I am feeling better tonight.

Re: Moms 2012- 2013

^ you're not taking vitamins? i thought its mandatory to take them during pregnancy, helps prevent birth defects and all. my doc prescribed me some over the counter ones; perhaps you should ask about it as well.

Re: Moms 2012- 2013

^ have u had ur blood tests done? Maybe you’re low on something? Vit D? Iron?

Go get yourself checked out..

Im on Vit D, Iron (with Vit C), Omega-3, folic acid and some other pregnancy stuff…

My sis’s doc also has started her on vits I think… not sure if she is taking them yet, but she’s been very unwell (vomitting) and stuff…

Just go see a doc and see whether all is good :k:

Re: Moms 2012- 2013

sadz i didnt take vits in first trimester cos i dont want to risk overdoing any vits and therefore going into toxicity.
will now begin vits in second trimester.
was taking folic acid though
vit c won't hurt however

Re: Moms 2012- 2013

^ Demesne, i thought you were supposed to be taking folic acid two months prior to starting TTC??

Re: Moms 2012- 2013

^ you have to take it prior to conceiving because it needs to build up in your body for it to help in preventing birth defects. the time its needed most is in the first few weeks after you concieve when a lot of other things are also being established.

demesne, were you taking folic acid separately or were you take a prenatal vitamin with folic acid? prenatal vits have everything and you do take those throughout the pregnancy, and even after.

i hope you feel better soon!

Re: Moms 2012- 2013

i am still taking vitamins as m bfeeding my baby and i took them throughout my pregnancy......

demesne start taking as early as possible so that u can see which one suits u.....

Re: Moms 2012- 2013

Girls, I was never TTC. Allah blessed me with this without me even trying hence me not taking folic acid from the beginning since I was never trying. I started it soon as I knew I was pregnant, and according to my blood tests, everything in my body was well within the healthy range, so I expect the baby is fine and didn't suffer unduly for lack of taking extrinsic folic acid beforehand.

I was advised not to take additional vitamins in my first trimester in case I went into toxicity of any one of them since I eat well and healthily and the baby was developing in first tri. Now that I am in second tri, perhaps my reserves are low. I am considering taking calcium and vitamin C regularly.

Previously I was taking cereals packed with vitamins early in the morning to ensure that my levels were good. Now I'll begin the external meds.

Re: Moms 2012- 2013

Re: Moms 2012- 2013

Eat iron rich foods, spinach, qeema, red beans, apples, cabbage etc. also fruits, you can make smoothies by blending. Eat cheese, and yoghurt. Butter, nuts etc.
you shouldn't be experiencing hairloss at this stage, it's usually 3 months post partum that hair falls a lot

Re: Moms 2012- 2013

There is a basic hemoglobin test and there's one to test for absorption levels, you should get both done

Re: Moms 2012- 2013

Silly me :smack:

Forgot there was no ttc..

Good on u for being so healthy!!

Re: Moms 2012- 2013

I didnt take any folic acid or vitmanis and boy did I pay for it.. I oculdnt keep down the folic acid and was throwing up all the time during the first trimester so the midwife took me off of it and I never went back on it...my iron was drastically low but by th time I started taking iron, it didnt do much for me, since the damage was done... I didnt sleep for more than 3-4 hours starting the 20th week of July because of the leg cramps.. it was horrible! Honestly, I still get nightmare about my pregnancy! so girls please please please take your vitamins, folic acid and whatever the doc tells you! I had leg crmaps until about six months after the baby was born!! if and when I get ready to be pregnant, I am loading my body with vitamins and folic acid!!!

Re: Moms 2012- 2013

it is because you were low to begin with

it is BEST to take all these vitamins within normal diet, rather than in medicated form

Re: Moms 2012- 2013

^ not a lot of people get complete levels of every single vitamin a prenatal has through their regular diet, OR you have to eat large quantities of specific foods to get the increased dosage of certain vitamins. its just not very practical, imho, especially when you are pregnant and possibly throwing up for weeks at a time. while eating a healthy diet is always good, taking a prenatal provides more coverage and is a solid back-up to fill in the blanks. ideally, you’d be eating healthy throughout your pregnancy and taking a prenatal.

*Are prenatal vitamins really necessary?
*Yes. It’s hard to get all the nutrients you and your baby need, even if your diet is close to perfect and you eat a broad range of foods, including meat, dairy products, fruits, vegetables, grains, and legumes.

Re: Moms 2012- 2013

pft you should listen to what I say then demi

I've been seeing so many preggo ladies or couples with a tiny baby on the train lately and they are so good you won't hear anything from them! (which I absolutely love)

I've always wondered though how can a pregnant under 155cm lady walk around with a baby growing inside her? and does she look like she's in her third trimester even though she's in her first?

Re: Moms 2012- 2013

All pregnant ladies NEED to take their prenatals!! Doesn’t matter how healthy or how well you eat. You are pregnant, growing another human inside you … you need those vitamins for healthy brain growth. I’m not saying that your baby won’t be fine if you don’t take them BUT it is advised, so take them.
I’ve seen a lot of ladies in Pak who don’t take prenatals. Why? Cause our mothers and grandmothers didn’t so why should we :smack: Here, doctors ALWAYS recommend you to take your prenatals every single day.
