This is beyond ridiculous. Where and how will you draw the line between light and heavy beating of your wife?
Can we make a council which can prohibit people like maulana talking?
Hence teaching about ethics/moral principles, social justice & equality and women’s issues etc. should NEVER be entrusted to people with stone-age thinking. They don’t even know the true meaning & essence of Islam.
Time to get rid of this superfluous body (CII). Time to stop pandering to these uneducated people.
The Council of Islamic Ideology (CII) is deliberating on its proposed ‘model’ women’s protection bill, which allows a husband to ‘lightly’ beat his wife ‘if needed’ and prohibits mixing of the genders in schools, hospitals and offices.
The CII’s proposed bill claims women will have all the rights given to them under Shariah, prohibits interaction between na-mehrams at recreational spots and offices, and bans ‘dance, music, and sculptures created in the name of art’.
Earlier this year, the Punjab Assembly passed a women’s protection bill, which the CII and religious parties strongly rejected, declaring it ‘unIslamic’.
The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government sent a similar bill to the Council for review, which it rejected on the basis of being ‘unIslamic’, and announced it will prepare a ‘model’ bill in response.
The proposed 163-point bill will be deliberated on Thursday and Friday. Copies of the bill have been sent to all provincial assemblies as the CII’s recommendations.
Salient points from the proposed bill address property, marriage, motherhood, crimes and violence against women, apostasy, and even venture into the instruments of state ‘acceptable’ for a woman to be involved in.
Farzana Bari, human rights activist and academic at Quaid-i-Azam University, termed the proposed bill unconstitutional.
“Allowing a husband to beat his wife, in any way, is against Pakistan’s Constitution and the international laws and treaties that Pakistan has signed and is bound by. This Council is a burden on the Pakistani taxpayer and bringing a bad name to Muslims throughout the world.”
Not allowing adult women to work and keeping them at home is to treat them like children or property, she added.
“This will take Pakistan further into ignorance.”

The problem with maulanas is that their interpretation of Islam is too literal and horribly misogynist. Hence our religion has become stagnant. It is not being interpreted for modern times by decent, forward thinking truly educated scholars.
So Maryam Nawaz (if she becomes PM) cannot receive a visiting President or PM
A female nurse in A&E who is free should not attend to a bleeding male patient or someone having a heart attack and should just leave them to die if all the male nurses are busy with other major cases!!!
LUMS (and other elite institutions) should make hijab mandatory for all its female students!
A woman has to keep her husband happy and keep producing babies (if he is against condoms and pills etc.) even if they are living hand to mouth and struggling to feed their other 10 children!!!
Well...
Whats new, they are saying it from last 200 years or so, and if someone opposes or have disagreement with them...that person is abused, harassed..and if possible get killed....
And with the trends, that everything should be sorted out by using street power, creating chaos... If police wants to clear the roads hit them...
Extremism & Radicalization have taken up the soceity hostage...
Need to cool things down and re-write the social agreement to have tolerance for opposite views.
It's a "thought process" of Zia which is now in 2nd generation of our countrymen.
Plus - his biggest legacy N$ is current PM; who vowed to complete Zia's mission thousands of times!
Well, you have to start from somewhere and as "trickle down" would have it, you start at the top. When they aren't safe, then the rest would keep their views to themselves.
In a way, they are following the quran. It is ironic considering the facts that quran doesn't ask for burqa as then the hajj would have asked for it. Neither does quran ask for blasphemy law (there is of course god's punishment on deniers) but then we use the sunnah and use some obscure examples for blasphemy laws that some sahabi did it, prophet muhammad didn't kill that sahabi so logically, it is 'a-ok' to murder blasphemers following the Sunnah. Look at how this mullah doesn't talk about sunnah now as the Prophet had many wives and it is written that like one time, he had an argument with Bibi Ayesha and his face was red, but he left the house instead of "lightly beating" his wife. No, I guess then the "sunnah" is too weak.
It left Europe and engulfed East...
Earlier it was in the name of Jesus, now in name of Islam...only names are different, fundamentals, practices and followers are same.
Basically the bill is reflective of the mindset prevailing in our society. We are very selective of everything. We pick the portion where it suits us. We fail to call and reject bad things when we like it. Similarly We dont even appreciate good things if it doesnt suit us. Hence there are terms like good taliban bad taliban etc.
But no, sharmeen obaid chinoy is destroying the image of country ..sigh

Why do we need religion- most things are common sense based.

True.Unfortunately this discussion is beyond the scope of this forum but since you asked religion gives meaning to life and spirituality.
My Islam is not intolerant of other people's points of view. I do not have a problem with peaceful law-abiding religious folk who mind their own business just the extremist nutheads who interpret religion as it suits them, who do not have any achievement in life other than questioning/constantly judging other people's morals. To each their own.
99% of the so-called atheists turn to a 'Higher Power' or somebody in times of stress or in their hour of grief or bereavement. The 1% who say they don't are liars!!!
Our founder, Jinnah said it in no uncertain terms 'Religion has nothing to do with the business of the state.' We need to go back and embrace his ideals

too late.........i am fully convinced that we will never be a secular state. we chose to become islamic republic of pakistan and we have now raised generation after generation feeding them a narrative that we got pakistan to live by islamic principles and that if we have to live secularly, then why did we separate from india?
the irony is that no one in pakistan has any idea what exactly is an islamic society and what are those islamic principles (other than namaz, roza, haj, zakat) by which we have to lead our lives but everyone will keep on repeating the same futile narrative that we earned pakistan to live islamically. 90% of our practical lives in pakistan are spent utilizing western technologies, western financial system, western communication system, western juidical system, western democratic system and western bureaucratic system............but yet, we are islamic republic of pakistan hating and demonizing west!
and then zia and mullahs jumped in and tried to define those islamic principles for us which are in no way in alignment with 21st century and therefore created a complete societal chaos but no govt dares challenging them.... and hence we have become most hypocritical, morally-cheap and intellectually bankrupt society.
alas, we refused to study jinnah academically as a normal person and admire different colors and shades of his personality. we placed him @ a prophet level and then created our own versions that suited our agendas and in the mean process made him the most confused personality
