Re: Bangladesh bans religion in politics
There is very little support for religious parties over there and it's generally a pretty secular country hence the title 'the People's Republic of Bangladesh' instead of the 'Islamic Republic..' and the lack of a crescent or any Islamic symbol/text on the country's flag unlike nearly every other Muslim country..
I think there's a general distrust of the religious parties due to their allegiance to Pakistan during the War of Liberation and the fact that they were opposed to the creation of the country.. Being honest, I think the seperation of religion and politics will help them move forward and mean less tension in a country that really doesn't need the extra stress and hardship of lunatics going round blowing people up.. There have been a few problems now and again with religious fanatics and terrorism but the Gov and Army have managed to keep a lid on it and not let the country become destabilised..
