After reading Eid namaaz yesterday, I noticed outside in the car park one SIL hugging her younger BIL he’s in his twenties) and another one of my older aunties hugging her older BIL. I just found it a bit wierd because islamically that kind of physical closeness is not permitted so how comes these people feel comfortable doing it? I’m not implying there were any impure thoughts involved I just found it strange. What do other people think? does anyone do this? or has anyone received an inappropriate eid hug?
Re: Inappropriate eid hugs
They hugged, I dont see any problem.
Re: Inappropriate eid hugs
very inappropriate. They should all hang a cardboard infront and then hug so there is no contact of the vital organs and thus igniting passionate flames that can't be put down unless some elder smacks them on the head.
Re: Inappropriate eid hugs
**hug is between mahrams only and that too [except between husband and wife] should be from the side of her rather than the front...kinda hug from side taht is approach her from her side. this is the tradition back home in indian subcontinent. hugs between naa-mahrams is not permitted.
but, all these things go with one's level of piety [which is again wrong coz the re is no grey area in islam]. what i'm saying is that these restrictions people apply to themselves as they grow older and become more pious. its culturallly very complicated. for instance, cousins are naa-maHram and women should come in Hijaab infront of them but how many people do it :(**
Re: Inappropriate eid hugs
Considering all these threads about falling in love with the Brother in law and the sister in law, I suggest we don't hug anybody any more. Not only that we shouldn't even have any physical contact. Standing at 6 feet distance should be mandatory for all family members.

I think this technique is called "spooning" in Kamasutra sex manual. very effective when the female is pregnant and into the third trimester.

Perhaps the 2 people involved don't mind. Usually people don't force hugs on each other...
No one dare give me an inappropriate hug. Nevaah!
Re: Inappropriate eid hugs
See now that is a smilie this website needs. :inappropriate hug:
Re: Inappropriate eid hugs
When I got engaged, there were occasions where people hugged each other... but I had issues with hugging my younger BILs. In the beginning, it used to b a slight hug from the side, but then I stopped gradually. Because I was totally against it.
In my hubby's family, his female cousins (married ones) would easily hug him n the rest of my BILs!! In fact, once on chaand raat, my hubby told me her cousin did a facial for him & i got SOOOOOOOOO mad!!! I can't express how I controlled myself!! But I told him clearly, I did not like it & it better not happen again!!!
For some people, they just don't think that way. They are all 'chill' about such things. They feel the intention is what matters. But for me, my religion is what matters. Nobody is going to kill you if you don't hug a namehram... no one can force you no matter what!!
Re: Inappropriate eid hugs
Sometimes you have a relationship with a na-mehram that is very brotherly-sisterly.
How do you explain it when a na-mehram takes you on hajj with him and his family as “his sister”? I see this happening all the time in Pakistan, especially with women who might be single and never got married - they’ll go to Umrah or Hajj with a BIL who is taking them “as his sister”.
Same thing. Sometimes you develop close relationships to people around you - doesn’t mean you’re trampling on the guy’s wife.

Only insecure women get really uppity about their men keeping contact with female family members. There should be no issue if he keeps in touch with his friends, regardless of gender. And an Eid hug is an Eid hug. I hug lots of people on Eid; doesn’t mean I like them.
:pcg: and exactly what are you trying to project yourself as?

OMGOSHhh!!!
Are THESE your worries in life??
![]()
Get over it!!
Ghia, not a worry in life hunni, just an observation....i think the person who mentioned putting a cardboard in between inappropriate huggers is on to something. Next eid I will take along a big peice of cardboard and if i see anyone about to engage in an inappropriate hug I will quickly insert it between them. They will thank me i'm sure once I explain I'm just trying to keep them away from hellfire.

Re: Inappropriate eid hugs
We can all make fun of Ajuba and her worries .. but what she is saying is a matter of real concern. If its a member of your family whom you can marry if he/she was not already married or/and you were not married then the person is a na mehram .. its as simple as that.
We can hug, kiss, caress, rub our BILS and SILS in the name of FAMILY but the fact is fact that its not allowed and should be avoided.
Re: Inappropriate eid hugs
This belongs in PCG's "what the hell is wrong with you people thread"!!!
For AJU and for the people hugging
Re: Inappropriate eid hugs
Ajuba, TLK and Niksik are right. People simply look for excuses to prove a wrong thing, right. I would say its pure Jahalat and qayamat ki nishani too.
A woman hugging her BIL or vice versa looks inappropriate even if you keep the religion aside.
Yaani ke hudd ho gaiee, kuch tou sharam chor do apnay mein......
