Hamilton urges U.S. to rout al Qaeda from Pakistan

Re: Hamilton urges U.S. to rout al Qaeda from Pakistan

Wishful thinking, no country likes its independence to be challenged.

Re: Hamilton urges U.S. to rout al Qaeda from Pakistan

seminole, the way this would work is if a joint command is made to enforce border security and has US and Pakistani counterparts at top..then if there are strikes, its by a joint task force and not US.

pakistani planes under this joint task force go and blow up some poppy fields and warlord/taleben two faced thigs operations in qandahar..just to kep it even..

easy does it.

to me the militants going on rampages is an interesting sign. i.e. they feel the heat. Had they not felt the heat they would be doign whattheyw ere doing..lying low, doing their deeds, planning their crap etc etc. Now they feel threatened, and with good cause, Pakistani forces showed them that militants will be sorted out...so now the head honchos are sending expendible automatons on teh streets to protest and to go carry out attacks.

Re: Hamilton urges U.S. to rout al Qaeda from Pakistan

It takes two to tango. America has to do its part in securing Afghanistan. Militants, al-Qeada and Taliban have nurtured rather challenged.

Re: Hamilton urges U.S. to rout al Qaeda from Pakistan

Any US involvement would obviously be witht the coordination of the Pakistan government. As I type that I am thinking about how Bush has made blunder after blunder. But surely he will partner with the government on any type of these actions.

Re: Hamilton urges U.S. to rout al Qaeda from Pakistan

Yes it does take two to tango. That means Pakistan has to secure the border on its side. The cross border attacks are coming from Pakistan at this point and ther leaderhip is in Pakistan.

Re: Hamilton urges U.S. to rout al Qaeda from Pakistan

Taliban resurgence in Afghanistan has nothing to do with Pakistan. Taliban growth has more to do with broken Karzai’s government and lack of training for Afghan police. Read more

Re: Hamilton urges U.S. to rout al Qaeda from Pakistan

C'mon, of course it does. Sure the broken promises and lack of training contribute to their growth, but even Musharraf admits the cross border raids from Pakistan. And everyone knows Taliban leadership is in Pakistan.

Re: Hamilton urges U.S. to rout al Qaeda from Pakistan

but but but..how did they get there, wern’t they in afghanistan?

and when like these guys go to afghanistan and return, they can be stopped on the way in or prevented from going back into Pakistan too right?

Re: Hamilton urges U.S. to rout al Qaeda from Pakistan

^^ The problem is that most of the Talibanized part of Pakistan is not under Pak govt's direct control and hence monitoring movement between that part and Afghanistan is not possible.

INVADE !!!

Re: Hamilton urges U.S. to rout al Qaeda from Pakistan

jiss kee laathi uss kee...

i think the problems of afghanistan clearly are due to stupidity of the americans. but who is going to make them realise that? instead of looking inwards, americans will blame external forces for failure in afghanistan and we cant do anything to change their viewpoint. problems will definitely increase if a democrat wins the white house. question is what will be the american policy response to bring pak to heel.

Re: Hamilton urges U.S. to rout al Qaeda from Pakistan

faisal ...the americans might have helped this problem but thats not the only reason why these guys have gone out of control... the blame should go to lack of governance by paki govt and islamic clerics going nuts.. anyway whts the point of pondering over the problem again and again, we need a SOLUTION ...

Re: Hamilton urges U.S. to rout al Qaeda from Pakistan

vedic, do you seriously think afghanistan can be controlled by 15,000 troops? india has 500k troops in kashmir for nearly 20 years and still have not been able to control the situation.

as far as the solution goes, in an ideal world, i would advocate pak retaining contacts with good taliban to hedge our bet so that in case nato leaves without finishing the job, pak has some leeway in afghanistan. however given the stupidity and rigidity of taliban, i advocate that pak should betray them and cooperate 100% with americans.

Re: Hamilton urges U.S. to rout al Qaeda from Pakistan

As long as we are looking at the chicken or the egg… the movement started in madrassas in Pakistan and were made into an effective political and military force in Afghanistan by the ISI.

It’s much easier said than done for any country to close its borders. All the kings horses and all the kings neocons can’t do it with US borders. So the next best thing (and would solve the same problems for Pakistan) is for the government to be in control of all territory and not allow a safe haven for these types .
