Re: Hamilton urges U.S. to rout al Qaeda from Pakistan
But how else do you root out the problem? Wait for them to strike, and then punish a few of them? and then wait again for their next strike?

You negotiate with them, take state forces out of areas of our own state, and allow them to fortify their positions. You then give in to the demands that state must show restraint and avoid taking any actions while they suicide bomb the state workers left and right. You fight this ideology by continuing to sacrifice our lives for them, while watching them to advance all areas of our country.
Re: Hamilton urges U.S. to rout al Qaeda from Pakistan
How about strengthening the Police instead of sending in the Army? As for strategy, like I have said, govt. should target only those who take law into their hand. And instead of waiting for them to strike, the govt. can take steps that neutralizes the extremist propaganda. I think that is a more long term line of action. Then again, the trouble we face in FATA has been brewing for a long time. Long term problems require long term solutions.

Please take this theory, and apply it to Lal Masjid scenario, and describe whether all this was done or not, and how well it played.
Re: Hamilton urges U.S. to rout al Qaeda from Pakistan
I support the lal masjid action. My only beef in the whole episode is why r the intel. agencies not being taken to task for allowing amassing of such huge quantities of ammo in a mosque next door.
Re: Hamilton urges U.S. to rout al Qaeda from Pakistan
The long term solutions you are talking about (anti extremist propoganda) are not going to be successful in a country like pakistan where religion plays such a strong part in ppls mind and how it affects their perspective on EVERYTHING.. there is no political stability either.. and we dont have enough time to implement long term solutions these scumbags are going nuts and blowing up shyt every day
Re: Hamilton urges U.S. to rout al Qaeda from Pakistan
well the good news is that the govt. has figured out who the master mind behind the suicide attacks is.

God, ALLAH I pray they know who it is and are going to finish them...

You are not the only one. I have read the same question in many other places. Typically this question is being asked to imply that Lal Masjid terrorists were armed by ISI or something. The answer could be much simpler than that. The terrorists are very well trained. The smuggled the weapons secretively. It is not like any people or goods going into that compound was being screened for anything. Perhaps people give too much credit to the intelligence agencies thinking they know every thing about every one. The don't.

True, but this place was within the most heavily monitored area of Pakistan, near President Palace, Prime Minister Office's, Nat.Assembly, etc
ISI have been invloved with Lal Masjod for years, there is no doubt.

Rashid Ghazi's vehicle was caught full of arms in 2004. He was let off on Ejaz ul Haq and Musharraf's intervention. So suggesting that the ISI did not know about the hanky panky going on in Lal Masjid is simply not true.
Re: Hamilton urges U.S. to rout al Qaeda from Pakistan
This thread alone shows that there is no consensus on action against these mullahs.

there might not be consensus in pak but if people from pak continue to committ mayhem abroad, there will be a price to pay. if we are lucky we will be under sanctions and if not, there will be direct bombing. perhaps bombing will be better cause otherwise it will be a slow death like iraq under sanction.
Re: Hamilton urges U.S. to rout al Qaeda from Pakistan
It is visibly a failed state, pains me to say that. The mullahs have caused a state of anarchy and cental govt is powerless outside of the big cities. Islamism will be the death of Pakistan, biting the hand that fed it.
Just confirms to me that nothing good can come when religion is allowed into politics. I wish every mullah and there sympathizers agony.
Re: Hamilton urges U.S. to rout al Qaeda from Pakistan
It's just news with no meat on it. America has lost two wars; Iraq and Afghanistan. Their moral is down, military is having trouble recruiting. Last thing they need is some Pakistani Mullah against them. America will be finished if it ventures into new territory.
Re: Hamilton urges U.S. to rout al Qaeda from Pakistan
Perhaps, and we dont wish to see any attack in or on Pakistan, but we must solve the mullah issue. Ban religion is a fix, close the mosques/madrassahs and enforce the law.

Not if they do it from the sky.
Re: Hamilton urges U.S. to rout al Qaeda from Pakistan
They did it from sky in Afghanistan and Iraq; did not work.
Re: Hamilton urges U.S. to rout al Qaeda from Pakistan
It's the "Amir ul Momeneen" Zia-ul-Haq whose crop we are reaping now. That *******, did the most damage to Pakistan in its 60 years history. Destroyed educational institutions, politicized Islam, and destablized not just the institution of democracy, but the culture of democracy itself. Along with his American buddies, they created this Mullah genie that we can't force back into the bottle now.

They followed the air campaign with a ground campaign. They won't do that in Pakistan, they will leave that up to the Pakistani army.
