And that's precisely what I was referring to......
I completely understand the position that "hijabis are people too".....never denied that everyone is only human and bound to make mistakes but the whole concept of "I'm following the religion (which implies that a non-hijabi isn't) and don't make me a role model cuz I'm gonna screw up just like everyone else" tends to become a bit lame when non-hijabis are even looking down upon these types of parties....
With that I think local mosques need to stop advertising Hijabi girls as "role models", I blame all the Hijab lectures (as far as my life is concerned) for making us believe that Hijabi girl is supposed to be better than a non Hijabi in every aspect. Our role models are great women like Hazrat Fatima ra, Hazrat Aisha ra....not every average Hijabi on the street. They take romantification of a certain 'dress code' and just a dress code to a whole new level and this has to stop. Thats probably my life experience only but its there.

Emphasis on social hijab is lacking.

this whole quote makes no sense. The first part you saying that you understand and the last part you are calling it lame.
why is it lame?
and why are you even looking down on it? is it any of your business? I dont understand why you have to judge.
as long as they are covering up their awrah and behave appropriately, there is nothing wrong with it.
and like i stated in my previous post - just because someone wears the hijab, it doenst make them better than a non hijabi. Don't assume that some hijabis (like me) think the way you implied.
Re: Hajabi girls going half-naked in ONLY LADIES PARTY...
FYI, I did not know that you could not be scantily clad in front of other women. Of course I don't prefer to be butt naked in front of anyone but definitely have run around the gym/locker room in my underwear and never knew it was islamically wrong. So maybe those hijabi girls don't know either. We learn most of the time that we have to be modest around men, at least thats what the emphasis is placed on.
Also isn't the concept of 'slutty' relative. My mum thinks wearing anything that shows my figure at all is quite slutty, let alone sleeveless or short sleeves. If she had her choice she would dress me in a sack. So who gets to decide how much skin you have to show before you become slutty? And also for those people who say wearing classy or sophisticated things make the difference; I have a pretty curvy figure so even if I wear a jeans and a t-shirt sometimes it looks like I'm tryin to show off my figure or something. My friend is like a stick and wears the exact same thing as me but still looks super decent.
Re: Hajabi girls going half-naked in ONLY LADIES PARTY...
^ But that's the point. In some of those parties the goal is to be slutty.
And that's the problem.
Re: Hajabi girls going half-naked in ONLY LADIES PARTY...
sahar, if its in their own private residence, and their awrah is covered, then why is it a problem?
i can see most of the hijabi girls see this as a costume party type thing. i hightly doubt they would wear those kind of clothing in everyday life.
also i agree slutty is relative. for me sleeveless is what i would refer to as revealing. even a low cut top i would think of it as revealing.

But it's not YOUR problem, is it? How's it affecting your lifestyle?

Like I said before, it's the glorification of the "slut" identity that I find problematic.
And it's behind closed doors in front of people that are not their husbands.
Re: Hajabi girls going half-naked in ONLY LADIES PARTY...
Nothing that we discuss on gs is hardly OUR problem, but we still do that.

its just a word. to me and probably most hijabis, slutty means revealing. so if they say, "dressly like a slut" it means wear something revealing.
and nothing wrong with wearing it in front of other muslim women. Refer to the link I had posted earlier.
Re: Hajabi girls going half-naked in ONLY LADIES PARTY...
Whore is just a word. ******* is just a word. Nigger is just a word. Fag is just a word. F**k is just a word.
But it's not right to use those words if you are a person with an ounce of class, dignity, sensitivity, or etiquette.

My understanding was that our sexuality is between ourselves and our husbands.
NO ONE else.
Re: Hajabi girls going half-naked in ONLY LADIES PARTY...
sexuality is different that wearing clothes that show skin.
so are u saying that girls taht dont wear hijabs and wear sleevless and low cut tops have no class because that should only be for the husband? i dont get it?
sorry sahar, i usually agree with everythign you have to say about everything, but i guess in this case we differ.
Re: Hajabi girls going half-naked in ONLY LADIES PARTY...

No, it means wearing something revealing with the intention of revealing. There are ladies from poor background (not to mention topless ladies of south American tribes) who might be wearing revealing clothes but the intention is not..
in fact, sluttiness is not the attire, its the attitude and one can be totally slutty in full clothes and one can be a bashful person in a two piece biniki suit

That's an interesting point and someone brought it up as well but it was looked over....if someones being a "slut" with her husband is she still a slut? or is that a whole other thread...

I'm saying that if you embrace and encourage the "slut" label amongst your friends, then I think it says something about you, and it's not a good thing. Because the goal with being a "slut" is to put your sexuality out there and to be objectified. It is more than just immodest.
Re: Hajabi girls going half-naked in ONLY LADIES PARTY...
but TLK, in this case, its a party for women that wear the hijab outside of the house. ive been to parties like that, and no girl dresses up to be sexy and to reveal their bodies. They wear nice and pretty clothes. So they are low cut and sleeveless. Whats the big issue with that?
ur right. it is all about intention. and the intentions that hijabis girls have wearing these types of clothes at a private party with only muslim women is not like what some people in this thread have about wanting to look sexy and slutty.
Re: Hajabi girls going half-naked in ONLY LADIES PARTY...
The thing is this usually happens where it is normally forbidden outside the privacy of their homes/rooms. It's not that hard to understand that they'd strip off at any given opportunity. Being able to dress the way you like is one of the very basic human rights! Given how much women love to dress up, this must be a killing restriction for some of them. SO what if they loosen up a bit behind closed doors. They are NOT rubbing off their nakedness in your face and those who have a problem with it.
Big difference between being treated bad and wearing little clothing behind closed doors.
Am I stopping them from dressing how they like? Nope. I'm just saying that it tells me something about them.
We send messages to people about us, based on the words we use, the clothes we wear, etc. Sure, live and let live. That doesn't mean you're not telling people something about yourself when you're reveling in the idea of dressing like a slut.
