In Islam men CAN show their legs and upto naval but it doesn't mean they SHOULD, specially in Western society where others will see their wives fully covered in comparison to them wearing shorts and whatnot.
The molvi saab in the masjid has a problem with jeans below ankles, you have a problem with shorts. What do we wear?

The other day I saw a woman fully covered wearing big woollen cardi and everything and just leaving the hands and face open with her husband who was in T and shorts, I thought other people specially the non-muslims would see this as oppression.
I've seen that. Once we were at an amusement park and we met a family from our social circle. They were pretty religions so I want suprised that ladies were wearing abaya (though it was a damn hot day). What I was surprised about is that guys were wearing shorts.
I was ticked as islamically guys are supposed to cover at least till knees and their shorts were above knees. How comes islam is more obligatory on your wives but not on you.

From the little research I did because of this thread, there seems to be a difference in opinion with scholars on whether or not thighs can be shown. Maybe those guys had a different belief.

thighs start right from the ...err .. ok you know where they start from .. so now we can all wear hot pants without any problem (at least according to those scholars :D)

Lets assume for a min that its "unfair" that you are in hijab and husband is in shorts, should this make you take off Niqab? are you doing hijab BECAUSE your husband is in full cloths and not because its what Allah has ordered?

I see these couples in the park, I don't think anything to be honest.
The couples that annoy me are the ones where the women is wearing niqaab, abaya, gloves etc and the guy is dressed like a ghetto hood-rat extra from a hip hop music video.

Islamically, men are allowed to wear shorts as long as it covers their knees.
It just looks really odd if the guy is wearing shorts and girl is wearing nikaab/hijab. Muslims who are aware of the rulings on dress codes might not see anything wrong with it, but it might just look weird and a tad hypocritical to outsiders.
Now I'm thinking about this one. I wear a hijab and the guy I'm getting married to wears shorts (knee-length ones) VERY rarely. He just owns a pair that he's never worn around me anyway . I should talk to him about that and make him throw them away.
