Also, if I recall men also have a dress code in Islam. And taking off your shirt on the beach isn't really preferred.

In all honesty I've seen men all fashionable with shorts and T-shirts speak to other women jokingly, but when it comes to their wives they say look your hair is coming out ... I think it odd ...
I have on the other hand seen an example of a beard flowing juba toting man walking around with white, blonde high heels lady with their baby in a pram. Anything is possible I guess! Even then it looks weird.

Oh god, thats not the point. Its not always about a relationship problem or oppression or blah blah.
It just means its so not fair when its 100 degrees outside and she has to wear hijab and he gets to parade around in shorts.
Thats all.

The dress code only applies to from waist down to the knees. So shorts, shirtless is acceptable.

when I was in pakistan my young BIL (husband's side) once made a comment that I should go inside, I was standing in the balcony with no dupataa on my head, well I dont do it on the head when outside too, so I was pissed..
now the sahib is in AUS on student visa and has displayed a skype pic of his just in shorts till knees... no shirt .. I was pissed at him but decided not to comment.

"A man's awrat parts are between his navel and his knees in three Madhhabs. In Hanafi Madhhab the knees are awrat. The navel is not awrat. In Shafi'i Madhhab the navel is awrat and the knees are not. In Maliki Madhhab none of them is awrat. It is stated in Mizan-ul- kubra that according to one explanation in Maliki and Hanbali Madhhabs a man's saw'atayn are his awrat only. Maybe if you’d read through carefully, the hadith there mentions the navel to knee being a men’s awrah. And as I mentioned earlier even thighs showing is acceptable with some scholars. Shorts and shirtless on the beach = 100% Halal :D.

yeah of course men can dress like as they wish, even looking as men whores .. showing off their huge giant upper bodies and tights, its acceptable, main thing is that their p is covered.

I know the limits in Islam. Islam also allows women to show their breasts to other women but how many women you see doing that?
In Islam men CAN show their legs and upto naval but it doesn't mean they SHOULD, specially in Western society where others will see their wives fully covered in comparison to them wearing shorts and whatnot.

I'm all for people having a right over whatever they want to wear but once I was at the dentists and I saw a nikaabi with her husband who was toting a very long beard along with some fancy surfer shorts and it did look very odd.
