Volcano lightening!
Nature unleashes a torrent of energy as ash fills the air: After lying dormant for more than 9,000 years, the Chaitén volcano belched forth a 40,000-foot-tall ash plume in early May, touching off lightning and a monthlong eruption.
Scientists suspect that volcanic lightning results from particles in the ash cloud rubbing together as the plume swirls. They aren’t sure about which types of particles generate the most static electricity, nor do they know how much energy is produced during the event.

Tectonic Plate Gap Between Europe & America
The gap between Europe and the United States is widening - by one inch a year. This image shows the vast gap between the two tectonic plates, as seen by a British scuba diver, Alex Mustard, 36,dived 80 feet into the crevice between North America and Eurasia to reveal the stunning landscape. The area - near Iceland - is riddled with faults, valleys, volcanoes and hot springs, caused by the plates pulling apart at about 1 inch per year.

Let's talk about the guy who took one of those cheap dna kit tests and totally destroyed the estimated time period of the emergence of humans.
Or we could talk about how sprinters hyperventilate before races...or some shiz like that
Re: Did you know? (Science Edition)
^did you want to open a thread on that? or did you want to post it on this thread itself?
Re: Did you know? (Science Edition)
A gun is used to start sprinters, instead of a flash, because you can react faster to a bang than to a flash. Physiology behind it: the cells in your auditory cortex can change their firing rate more quickly in response to a bang than your visual cortex cells can in response to a flash.
