Did you know? (Science Edition)

Re: Did you know? (Science Edition)

In keeping with our slackers post on solar system. Sat WSJ had article on a new planet being formed 450 light years away. Scientists for 1st time can see process of planet formation. Milky way 100000 light years wide. So this new planet is within Hanuman's leap.

Not in a hurry. Working slowly towards that goal. Much like Vijay and Pujars - slow 1st session in day 2. Then accelerate.

Goats on trees are found mostly only in Morocco. The goats climb them because they like to eat the fruit of the argan tree, which is similar to an olive. Farmers actually follow the herds of goats as they move from tree to tree. Not because it is so strange to see goats in trees and the farmers like to point and stare, but because the fruit of the tree has a nut inside, which the goats can’t digest, so they spit it up or excrete it which the farmers collect. The nut contains 1-3 kernels, which can be ground to make argan oil used in cooking and cosmetics. This oil has been collected by the people of the region for hundreds of years, but like many wild and useful things these days, the argan tree is slowly disappearing due to over-harvesting for the tree’s wood and overgrazing by goats

That is awesome…they have crazy balance!

Re: Did you know? (Science Edition)

It is estimated that millions of trees in the world are accidentally planted by squirrels who bury nuts and then forget where they hid them!

Fish swimming over wooden benches, a grass-covered bottom, trees, roads and even bridges create a surreal setting that feels like it belongs on dry ground. That’s because for half of the year, that’s exactly where it’s at.

Located in Tragoess, Styria, this mountain lake is almost completely dry during the cold winter months. But as soon as temperatures rise, the snow and ice covering the mountaintops begin to melt, and the water pours down, filling the basin below with crystal-clear water and creating a 10 meter-deep lake, for half the year.

Park during winter, Lake during summer!

It is so pretty…!
