I am surprised a lot of people think this is a stint to get political asylum in UK. Political Asylum is not the big prize for an international cricketer. Zulqarnain has been going to the UK for the last 8-9 years. If he wanted, he could've claimed asylum any time. Asylum only makes sense for someone for whom the visa is a once in a lifetime opportunity, and who has no other way to earn a living in Pakistan.
Zulqarnain did the right thing. Knowing the situation of Pakistan cricket, and the fact that some players are still involved in it, he had only three options: 1. Throw the match as told, make lots of money. 2. Refuse to throw the match, with the risk of putting his and his family's life and future in jeopardy. Not only that, his international career would be over too, considering how strong the mafia is. 3. Get away from cricket, keep his conscience clear (by not indulging in match fixing), and try to provide protection to his family.
He chose #3, which was the only logical choice. A lot of players have/would choose #1 (Butt, Aamir, Asif, Malik, Akmal brothers, etc).
He could have also 1) taken retirement before 5th ODI (remember rashid latif and basit ali?) 2) Approached Dubai police 3) approached any official or wutever...
But this SOAP is not acceptable.. Helllooo
What you guys think if whole PCB also involve in it? I"m sure those 3rd class PCB persons are also making money.

The drama takes another turn. now his family refuses to join him and one day after he "flees " from the mob he is ready to play for Pakistan.

I I don't think this is a stunt to gain political asylum....for majority of Pakistanis ,getting british nationality is a big deal....but for an international player, it is not that big of a deal...also think about this…if he really wants an asylum, he can also get it on religious basis/..he is a syed and i think he is a shia....i am not saying that every shia syed can get it but zulqi could have made a case that his life is in danger being a shia syed & a prominent personality and these days, prominent personalities from minorities are definite targets in pakistan....why would he need to risk his whole career….but what he did is absolutely childish and his post-action steps are also very bizzare..i believe it is due to lack of education…his interview to jang clearly indicates that he does not possess logical mind...but that does not mean he is making up the whole story...we need to look into this whole episode more closely and with an open mindset....we cannnot afford bringing brothers from a jawari family..
after talking about keeping an open mind you finished with the same mindset which you are asking others to avoid. Accusing Akmal family when there is no case so far against them. I am not defending them here but just saying keep an open mind there as well.

I heard that Kamran akmal is giving threats to Zulqarnain Haider that he will kill him.Thats why he leaves dubai and went to Uk.

Why did Kamran Akmal never threaten Sarfraz when he was playing in place of Akmal?
Also Zulqarnain himself says he was asked to fix the match not threatened by someone to leave the team.

Agree ehsan bhai.
And i am amazed that how so many peopel are buying this story when even teh British tabloids have enough sense to shake it off.
There were much better players tan him who did not agree to match fixing and never complained about receiving threats. Rashid Latif was twice a better keeper and 5 times a better batsman than Zulqarnain, refused to be involved in match fixing, never had any threats.

I am afraid that he will not get asylum and then he will sell out to a tabloid for making accusations against players who may be innocent (other than the trio).

Taking asylum, joining one of the counties here and selling his story to make money, all part of the plan maybe, but seems it has gone wrong, now that his family has refused to join him in UK.

^I dont think it was very clear that he could becoem a regular international player. He appeared to be on course for average ones who end up playing club cricket in England or at best county cricket, something he can still do after claiming asylum. He is not a better keeper than Akmal and he is much lower in batting compared to him. He would have had a lot of hardwork to do to be in the team, somethign i wished he would have done instead of being a bhagora.

^ I don't think he knows any names. I may know only one person, the person who approached him. He certainly have no expertise to judge if threats were credible. I think he is being truthful and trying to manage it well.
