I dont think he is going to get asylum.
I am surprised a lot of people think this is a stint to get political asylum in UK. Political Asylum is not the big prize for an international cricketer. Zulqarnain has been going to the UK for the last 8-9 years. If he wanted, he could've claimed asylum any time. Asylum only makes sense for someone for whom the visa is a once in a lifetime opportunity, and who has no other way to earn a living in Pakistan.
Zulqarnain did the right thing. Knowing the situation of Pakistan cricket, and the fact that some players are still involved in it, he had only three options:
1. Throw the match as told, make lots of money.
2. Refuse to throw the match, with the risk of putting his and his family's life and future in jeopardy. Not only that, his international career would be over too, considering how strong the mafia is.
3. Get away from cricket, keep his conscience clear (by not indulging in match fixing), and try to provide protection to his family.
He chose #3, which was the only logical choice. A lot of players have/would choose #1 (Butt, Aamir, Asif, Malik, Akmal brothers, etc).

Its all drama my friend, all drama! Zulqi was sure of one thing, he couldnt stay longer in the team. For wutever reason! He preferred to take asylum. Thats all.
Now saying “Pakistan meri maan hai, apni maan ko nai bech sakta”.. then why take asylum??? Isnt it the same statement every political leader give while running to UK?
Wese to altaf bhai also says that he wants to come back ASAP.. (since 1991, rite!!)

In my view and many other cricket followers Zulqarnain had a bright future and he was good replacement of Kamran Akmal.
That's yr view my friend, and as a matter of fact, mine too! But does Pakistani cricket behave as per my and yr views? NO. And this BS drama has proved it again!

^ He could've easily ran for 'asylum' after playing 5th ODI and then claimed the same thing as he had one month remaining for UK visa if asylum was his real intent.

Although I would love to have Zulqarnain in place of Kamran Akmal but he has shot himself on his feet. Many things does not add up in Zulqarnain's Story above all, why did he leave his family back home to get killed?
Best options for him was to inform PCB, ACSU (ICC) and should have opted out from playing the final ODI if he was so scared. If he is not playing, off course bookies can not approach him.
I believe his case is the result of bad decision making (his own decision making that is). If he had to do this for Asylum, he could have done this couple of months ago when he was in UK or even after 5th ODI.

He could have also
1) taken retirement before 5th ODI (remember rashid latif and basit ali?)
2) Approached Dubai police
3) approached any official or wutever...

I fully agree that this seems to be case of bad decision, he should've taken the issue with management and if they didn't do anything to satisfaction then he could've talked to ICC officials or run away like he did now. But seems like he was short of confidence in PCB or probably he thought some of them could be behind the threat too, who knows.

You guys are forgetting that he was one of the heros of the 4th ODI and his stock had risen up considerably amongst the PCB administrators. I think also, being selected in front of K. Akmal, he was now the Number 1 keeper and it was his job to lose. So I dont think this is a publicity stunt. In Similar fashion that Basit Ali & Rashid Latif retired back in 1996, this speaks volumes of the players and mgmt still involved in match fixing. He didnt trust anyone to share this info with, like many Hollywood movies, the good guy doesnt know who to trust even in FBI. Similarly, he chose the path of pain and being discarded from the team forever.

The team management has already ditched three heroes of Pakistan. To avoid any further PCB flip flops, this hero has taken things in his own hands for the sake of our motherland.
Regardless, they have brought enough embarrassment to the motherland. The general trend is that the whole nation trusts white guys more than their own kind.

He called the geo reporter first to get his family some protection, if he went back to Pakistan his voice wudnt be as loud as it is now. PCB wud have forced him to say what they wanted. An example is they had problems with razzaq saying player of his class wasnt sure if he is playing the next game.

Inform PCB its clear from his story that he couldnt trust PCB officials. If he approached ICC and told em PCB cant be trusted then he would actually give an excuse to ICC for banning Pakistan from cricket. If he optted out of last ODI knife would still be on his throat for taking bribe and not playing the match.

I guess u would choose asylm over playing for Pakistan, even if he has a contract signed as level C player he would make money then he would in England.

Actually, i am proud of him, From the latest article on cricinfo, he mentions that he was supposed to have thrown the 4th ODI!!!!!!! According to him he was "asked" to stay in line for the 5th ODI or else.
BTW in the cricinfo article....he mentioned that he is retiring from international cricket..a 24 yrs old/young guy who has/had talent and future!

I don't think this is just a stunt to gain political asylum. He was a young player and showed a lot of potential. Wth is he going to do as a refugee in UK? Makes no sense to me.
What would make more sense is that he was infact getting threats because he was not complying with the demands. He was much much much less cooperative than the last wk Kamran. Kamran can easily have ties with the fixers and the motivation to harass the fk out of Zulfi hence would have more cause.
Not a wise decision to leave like he did and create the drama like he did but he's a young guy immature new to the scene.. he freaked out and did what he did.. to do all this to gain political asylum? I think not.

If after all the attention and banning of the 3 players, now this soon somebody ... Some mafia...is trying to fix cricket? It's got to be a mafia of people who feel such impunity. I wouldn't be surprised one bit to uncover dawood ibrahim's behind this. Only a crook of that stature and backing can be this bold.

Some one some where helped him to con officials to retrieve his passport, prearranged flight ticket, what to say on arrival at Heathrow, how to get GEO on your side blah blah blah..

I I don't think this is a stunt to gain political asylum....for majority of Pakistanis ,getting british nationality is a big deal....but for an international player, it is not that big of a deal...also think about this…if he really wants an asylum, he can also get it on religious basis/..he is a syed and i think he is a shia....i am not saying that every shia syed can get it but zulqi could have made a case that his life is in danger being a shia syed & a prominent personality and these days, prominent personalities from minorities are definite targets in pakistan....why would he need to risk his whole career….but what he did is absolutely childish and his post-action steps are also very bizzare..i believe it is due to lack of education…his interview to jang clearly indicates that he does not possess logical mind...but that does not mean he is making up the whole story...we need to look into this whole episode more closely and with an open mindset....we cannnot afford bringing brothers from a jawari family..
