**Zulqarnain Haider reveals ‘suspicious’ incident involving Butt, Amir in domestic cricket **

Big News Network.com (ANI) Monday 15th November, 2010

Runaway wicketkeeper Zulqarnain Haider has revealed a suspicious incident in Pakistan domestic cricket, claiming that Lahore Eagles coach Sajad Akbar had forced him to stand down as captain for the 2009 Royal Bank of Scotland Cup quarterfinal.

Haider claims that he was forced to ‘rest’ from Lahore Eagles’ 50-over match against National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) on March 28, 2009, which ended in one of the most astonishing results ever recorded.

Lahore Eagles scored 122 from 40.3 overs, while NBP, who had to win convincingly to improve their net run-rate to qualify for the semifinals, replied with 123 for no wicket off 6.1 overs.

Suspended Pakistan Test captain Salman Butt had smashed an unbeaten 92 off 25 balls in the match, which also featured Kamran Akmal, Wahab Riaz and Mohammad Amir.

Haider recalled the incident in his uncertain English: “One night before, I was captain for my team. They gave the captaincy to another player and said you are not able to do captaincy.”

“The coach said to me, if you do not rest, you will not be playing next year for Lahore,” the Daily Times quoted Haider, as saying.

Earlier, last week, the 24-year-old had fled to London just hours before Pakistan were scheduled to play their ODI series decider against South Africa in Dubai.

The wicketkeeper later revealed that he had taken this extreme step after receiving death threats from match-fixers, and was now seeking asylum in the UK. (ANI)

probably every new revelation pays up better than a cricket match : D and no effort needed whatsoever.... seems good business

re: Zulqarnain Haider goes missing/ announces retirement/returns back - drama continues

No one would end their cricket career just to get asylum in UK. People who think he is doing a drama to live there are pathetic at best. If we know sitting in our homes and the tainted trio plus Kamran and Danish are likely to be prevented from representing Pakistan in the near future, I'm sure he knew as well. If not for ODI's he at least would have been a permanent fixture for test matches for a long time to come because he really had no competition except for Sarfraz Ahmed.

re: Zulqarnain Haider goes missing/ announces retirement/returns back - drama continues

same can be said of people who think he is not doing dramay baazi for asylum purpose. This is just to bring home to you that to call people pathetic just because they don't share your views is also pathetic.

re: Zulqarnain Haider goes missing/ announces retirement/returns back - drama continues

He handled the situation immaturely, but that doesn't mean what he is saying doesn't have substance. His reference to the domestic match is very, very suspicious and it just isn't a coincidence that the team he was playing against consisted of Salman Butt, Wahab, Aamer and Kamran Akmal. Zuqi, immature or not, has always given his best for Pakistan and that is evident from his one and only test match and the few ODI he has played.

re: Zulqarnain Haider goes missing/ announces retirement/returns back - drama continues

It is pathetic because it really is common sense. If he wanted to live in UK so bad that he was willing to sacrifice his entire cricketing career for it, he could have EASILY done it in the series before this, which was in England and the spot fixing controversy was at it's peak. Plus, most people wud have believed him at that time too. Pakistan's reputation isn't getting worse, but in my view getting better that at least their are some honest players who are not willing to go down on their knees for match/spot fixing mafia just to make some quick cash by selling Pakistan.

Bhaijaan this thread is about sports, not politics so let's keep it that way, if you want to be anti Musharraf and want to enjoy the likes of Zardari and Nawaz then good for u :)..and like I said, I will stick to saying it's pathetic to say he sacrificed his entire cricketing career just to live in UK. Do some research and u will find our how desperete he was to play for Pakistan. There could be many other reasons why he did such a thing but to seek asylum in UK is NOT it.
