depends upon whether you are beautiful or ugly. If you are ugly, yes I am gay.

Pathan, but like the other people of our region (Attock) we stopped speaking Pushto a few hundred years back and started speaking Hindko (a dialect of Punjabi) to facilitate trade with the Punjabi merchants and because the administrators of the region spoke Hindko, today some of my relatives still speak Hindko and some like my family speak Urdu or a combination of both Hindko and Urdu.

About the origins of the Pathans well one of Prophet Abraham (peace be upon him)’s descendents Saul (peace be upon him) had two sons, one of who was named Jeremiah (peace be upon him) who had a son named Afghan.

When the king of Babylon invaded Jerusalem and destroyed the temple of Solomon (peace be upon him) he expelled the Jewish tribes, including the children of Afghan out of their homeland Jerusalem, during the days of Babylonian captivity the Jews got scattered all over, one of the tribes of Afghan settled around what today is known as Afghanistan and Northern Pakistan.

They accepted Islam at the time of the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) when a group of their kinsmen (Jews) living in Arabia sent word to them that the true Prophet of God as prophesised in the Torah had appeared in Mecca. The Pathans/Afghans sent a delegation to Arabia headed by Imraul-Qais who met the Prophet of Allah (peace be upon him), embraced Islam, came back and converted the entire tribe to Islam.

Oh yara glad to read your reply! What part of Attock are you from? Your right about the Hindko speakers, but there are still quite a few Pashto speakers in Attock town.

My family's (fathers side) ancestoral home is in Fatehjang, but they moved to Attock town, Hassan Abdal in the early 1900s. We are Rajputs.

Reading all these posts it seems to me that almost everyone is either a prince or related to the Prophet or come from some exotic place afar from India!!

I think all of us believe in what we are told by our parents etc. Surely statistically speaking, we would have had at least someone who would own up to being from a caste with a "normal" background? How about discussing stereotypes in various regions- that should make it more interesting but some may find offensive!! Anyway here goes-

In Distt Gujrat, it is widely believed that Mughals are "Lohaars", Quraishis are "Meraasi's", Jatts and Gujjars are Chaudhries, Arains grow vegetables for a living. Thats all I know but there may be more - not sure.

As I am a Gujjar, I will inform everyone that we are known as "Doodh bechnay walay" in some areas inc Lahore area.

Khattana :hehe:

Salaam RajputFury, I'm from near Kậmra. :)

I've not been to Hassan Abdal but I've heard of it, our neighbours (a Sikh family) went there last year on a pilgrimage to the Panja Sahib Gurdwara. :)

Sorry 4 the mistake

I’m glad I started this thread…got a wide variety of responses :k:

My parents’ dialect is similar to (and may very well be) what is termed “hindko.” Their way of speaking Punjabi is quite different than the way, say, Lahoris speak Punjabi. My extended family is from Chakwal which is near Rawalpindi in northern Punjab.

Like I mentioned, I am Awan from dad’s side and Rajput (Janjua) from mom’s side. I rather like the combo…landownership on the one hand and royalty on the other. Business-oriented grandparents on both sides.

:flower2:

^ chakwal? but i thought u were greek

ummm im Memon, both my parents are from Jetpur in India.

Memons are KNOWN for being Business-Men all over!!
