Your ethnic background

Just want to comment on the diverse ethnicities existing within countries. Many ethnic groups exist in Pakistan ranging from the Kailash (Aryanic) on one extreme to the Makranis (negros) on the other. I am always fascinated by the diversity of our land which gives rise to a rich cultural heritage.

Guppies, what is your ethnic background and what contribution does/did your particular ethnic group make to Pakistan and/or the world?

Re: Your ethnic background

Rajput :soldier:

We are a major part of Pakistan…mostly concentrated in Sindh and Punjab. We have a strong militaristic tradition, although in contemporary times Rajputs have branched out into every occupation possible.

The first and last Rajput head of Pakistan was Liaquat Ali Khan of Karnal, Indian Punjab. Just wanted to mention his name because many Pakistanis assume he was a Pakhtun/Pathan because of the “Khan” surname.

I am a punjabi sikh born in a sindhi muslim family. According to BoSS anyways.

Why do people make so much importance of ethnicity?

Hum Hain Syed. :)

The world would be quite a boring place without different ethnic backgrounds. I would suffocate to death seeing a Toronto full of just crackers.

:hehe: well said!!

Let me add, that by stating our backgrounds, it doesnt mean that we are better than others…just proud of who we are, who our ancestors were etc.

Exactly :k:

Pathan.

:hehe: :k:

rajput pathan.. not those goray walay.

All I know is Kashmir, a town called Kotli.

A full Rajput, with Kashmiri background links from mom's side!!

RajputFury, you are right about the militaristic tradition in the Rajputs, my grandfather was in the army and his cousin was the first person to recive the nishne-e-haider.

My own:

Awan from father’s side…
Awans from centuries back until even now, continue to be northern Punjab’s top landowning class. They are ethnically derived from Persians, and most today boast of a defined, disciplined military tradition. My dad is always very proud to point out our family’s vast landholdings in the village where he was born.

Rajput from mother’s side…
Rajput from centuries back were the warrior class of hindus who had a strong military tradition to boast of. Most Rajputs did convert to Islam as the religion was spread in the region, and today are revered for their associative regal status.

I am a 100% Punjaban Kuri…

:flower2:

Punjabi on both mother and father's side. Father is Jatt Sandhu, mother is Jatt Phularwan. Landowners in Lahore, and our village Sherpur. We own a tractor ;)
