:k: My thoughts exactly. ![]()
:topic: read the post again.. its not a debate about castes or backgrounds or Pakistani nationalism but different groups of peopel living in Pakistan to make it so colorful..
Half Pathan and half Baloch.
I believe that we should recognise our ethnic backgrounds and roots but not be proud of them because undoubtedly pride leads to arrogance and looking down on others. Being proud of our castes and ethnicities causes disunity amongst us, first we are Muslim, then Pakistani and any other identity comes after that.
Caste is Gujjar from both mother and father. Gujjars are a large caste ranging from nomadic tribes in Kashmir to Land owning chaudhries in Punjab. I am originally from Dist Gujrat in Punjab from a proud family- our family tree goes back to 1000AD to Hindu ancestors- although I am not sure how accurate it is!! Most famous Gujjars are - Chaudhary Rehmat Ali, the forgotten visionary who named Pakistan & Chaudhary Fazal Elahi the President of Pakistan preceding Gen Zia. These days Gujjars are also linked with violence mainly due to Punjabi films like- Vehshi Gujjar, Kala Gujjar, Gujjar da vair etc etc. !!
I don't think there is anything wrong with being proud of one's ethnic origin. I disagree that being proud of your origin makes a person arrogant. It's definitely interesting to know of what you're made of in terms of background.

Nope - different castes. Gujjars are mainly in northern Punjab and Kashmir (I think) whereas Jatts are all over Punjab. Most of the Sikhs are Jatts too.
