I had a mini heart attack the other day when I received my electric bill. Oct 23 till Nov 24 is the first full billing cycle since we moved to this house, and that also first winter.
Our house is a full electric house, with your usual forced air heat, water heater, electric washer dryer, and electric stove. Heat is usually at 68F, as the second floor remains warm because of sunlight. I am not sure what is hogging most of the power. All previous houses we lived in were part electric, part gas … So this is my first experience
And the bill was $358. is it normal? Too much? Borderline much?
i dunno about the electricity charges in the US but generally electric heating is the most expensive. i would say way too expensive.
we pay around $500 a month for heat N hydro. we have gas furnace to heat our homes and water. stove and other appliances run on electric of course. we also have gas-fired oven as well.

What was your combined electric and gas total before ?
I have not received my water bill yet as we get it every second month, but my guess is about 75 dollars a month. That would make my utility around $450 a month during winter time
Idk where you live but mine would be high one month and low the next, where I used to live before. They only did reading once in two months. So maybe the next month would be lower. Also, is there like a one time initiation charge or something? Look at the company's website for peak and off peak hrs. Dishwashing, laundry wagera off peak hrs main kareen.
Good question TS. I don’t remember. Actually we were living in a smaller rental house for last 15 months, which was also a full electric house, but I think because it was smaller, so heating bill was low.
It’s been almost 17 months since I lived in a gas/electric house, and that was in a different city. I don’t remember but my guess is the total was probably around $350

TS, if the bill is what it is, then I can't do much. But if there is a potential of me cutting it down further, then I would love to get the feedback of people here.
Spiral, we don't have peak/non peak hours program available for us :(
It depends how cold it is where u live, how big ur house is, howmany people live in it.
I live in Brooklyn in a 2 story house that is attached to other houses on both sides. Its just 2 people and i use the washer and dryer every weekend to do 2 loads of laundry. My bill last month was 60 and 120 for gas.But my heat and stove are all gas. I think urs is high because u mentioned everything is electric.
If you have a huge house or live in a really cold city like chicago it will cost more.
Also not sure what electic co u have but call them and ask why its so high.
Per unit cost is about 10 cents per kwh. Don't know how high or low it is in comparison.
CPA, house is decently on a bigger side, but nothing too huge, about 3600 sqft. And yes, central Washington can get really cold during winter, but our winters are only three months long
I have a 2 story, appx 3000 sqft home...2 AC units. We have a tankless gas water heater, gas cooktop and heating system on gas. The highest our elec bill has been so far (at the height of Texas summers) is $225. Our area is deregulated so we are not bound to a specific provider. We currently pay 11.5 cents/kw.
Our heat is gas, so I can only compare it to our summer bills... peak summer we paid about $260.00 for electricity... its a 4000 sq. ft house and summers in Atlanta go upto mid 90s ... now... heating w/ electricity is more expensive and if you are in a place where it is colder... your bill is tad bit more than normal.
You can do a couple of things to bring it down:
1. Get one of those kill-a-watt thing and see which one of your appliances/computers is raking in the most.
2. Get Nest. It will pay itself off within a year. They say it will cut down about 15%, but I can vouch for 10% savings.
