Your appearance and desi culture

Re: Your appearance and desi culture

I remember once an auntie came to see our newborn and started telling me how I should move around more to get back in shape…I was like WTH I’ve just had a baby, leave me alone. grrrr

Re: Your appearance and desi culture

Now before some people start accusing me of blindly defending Pakistan (or whatever they call it), let me make myself clear.

Most of the people above are mentioning their relatives (or people they know well) saying offensive things bluntly in the face. I know many goray who have the same problem, their relatives who cant keep their mouths shut and have to pick on every little negativity they find in the other. Like somebody said before, those are your relatives (not that they have a right to diss you) and that's why they feel the urge to remind you of the 'bitter truth'.

Now tell me, how many times did it happen that a non relative/ajnabee desi come to you to make a stupid remark about your appearance?

Re: Your appearance and desi culture

a desi woman in the market (when I used to run a market stall) she said, "tum kitni khubsurat ho". That was just creepy.

Re: Your appearance and desi culture

^ I was talking about stupid remarks, offensive things, dissing.

Complimenting one of his/her beauty isnt stupid now, is it?

Btw, if it had been a gori woman, would you still find it creepy?

Btw 2, i called you pretty when i saw your picture in your blog. Did that creeped you out too? :hmmm:

Re: Your appearance and desi culture

lol…but you’re no stranger. :phati:

Re: Your appearance and desi culture

Anyway, thanks everyone for commenting....on the topic. I get that this annoying behaviour isn't limited to desi people only and can be found in goras too, and that I have yet to experience some nasty comments coming from gora friends or neighbors. Alright, I'm waiting.

Re: Your appearance and desi culture

They do it but it's pretty rare for a white adult to make a negative comment about a child's looks..

Re: Your appearance and desi culture

Do crazy people on buses count?

Re: Your appearance and desi culture

^That reminds me, when I go waxing at the salon in PK, I always get asked why I wear hijab since I live in America. ufff.

Re: Your appearance and desi culture

^ This is no different from gora asking you, you're Irish how come you are a teetotalitarian.

I've seen plenty of time Western folks asking Muslim girls why they don't do Hijab since they're form Middle East.

Sometime people are just curious. Its not their fault that they haven't traveled far enough thus have a very limited idea about countries from totally different continents

Re: Your appearance and desi culture

i have been to highschool in Canada, all four years, so i know what i m talking about

may be you just happen to come across some bigtime bullies in your highschool

it depends on the individual, not part of the world they live in, wether or not they are judgemental abt others' looks...its nothing to new to know some people give u a stick bcoz of the way u look and i never said it doesn't happen at all in the west, i said i haven't seen it happening, not atleast that i can remember rite now...

whereas, after i moved to pak..."oh that girl's so pretty" that pretty girl passes by them, they want to say a hi to her, make friends with her ...or they will go "iss may kis cheez ki kami hai, lambi hai, gori hai" ....its all about sucking up to the "good looking" ones in pakistani highschools and uni's

so its a fact, u agree or not, generally the west is more accepting towards looks than desi people (those living in pakistan)

ofcourse, its a personality trait, not a desi trait, and it can be found in any individual...but it just happens to be that you see it more in desi people

Re: Your appearance and desi culture

Are you kidding me?
Look at the countless arranged marriages where the most unseemly matches get made regularly!
You wouldn’t find that anywhere in the world! :hehe:

P.S. Lucky you! For the most part, school and what not is full of bullying; subtle or otherwise.

Re: Your appearance and desi culture

name_105. Goras are no angels and no they're not in love with you if they're not picking on your physical appearance!!!!

What you are talking about is called political correctness and existence of anti racist laws in a multicultural society. We here in West cannot make fun or criticize people of other nationality without getting accused of being racist. Its a fact and thats the bottom line.

Re: Your appearance and desi culture

well that’s the thing, its marriage, u are getting a spouse, not a new classmate…and anyone wishful of a successful marriage would not want to give a stick to their other half just bcoz of the way they look, there are things more bothersome than that in a marriage

Re: Your appearance and desi culture

I don't know...someone recently mentioned in other thread how Pakistanis have left reading books, that alone tells a lot about them.

Re: Your appearance and desi culture

Its not just the Pakistanis that are going away from reading books.

I understand we might have lots of **** to work on but seriously people, you're saying the same kind of thing that Black, White, Yellow and Brown people everywhere say about their own races. Everyone has **** to sort out.

Y U NO LOVE URSELF?!

Re: Your appearance and desi culture

your post made me laugh

i wud rather have goras pick on me than love me, seriously

your point's right, i know that law too, thats why i mentioned you see it more in pakistan

Re: Your appearance and desi culture

Well then, I think your wish came true with Pakistanis. Now here's something to laugh about. :D

Re: Your appearance and desi culture

i have got asked that too…“bahar toh larkiyan bhot advanced hoti hain, aut tum hijaab laiti hoti”

seriously, look how they even put it…so its backward to practice islam, they want us to end up in hell :chai:
