and smaller eyes plus hijab explains the indonesian bit. The person giving the south african comment probably didn't know his/her geography :D

What is usally your response....I have had people just assume that Im spanish and talk to me in spanish..:(......and not si habla espaniol...but wayyy longer sentences....and I only know ...yoquero Taco Bell:D
There arent many desis where I live so I dont blame them....I still dontknow how Taiwanese are different from Vietnamese, or Chinese from Japenese...so its fine:)

well im not fair skinned..thats for sure...so i must be desi....i do ask some pple how come i look so and so...they say my eyes...wth...my eyes are small!

there are many dark skinned afghans, arabs, irani's as well.

Yes I agreed with you. Mery ilaqy main lagta hy Tamil Indian ziada hain on sy Urdu main kuch kehny ki ghalti main shuru main buhat kerti thi. Jwab main "ady bady dadde made"Sun ker aksar bokhla jaya kerti thi. Os ky baad shakal sy hi pehchanny lagi ky bas yeh Tamil Indian hain Urdu sy achi Angryzi bolty hain.

My Experiences

1) Fight in Mexico for not speaking Spanish & trying to be an American (they always think I am local). Similar experience in Brazil.
2) USA: (90% tought I was south American, I had to convince them that I am Pakistani).
3) UK: 100% Pakistani (never even was mistaken as Indian, I am so happy about it)
4) Holland (& few other EU countries): There never cared, but if wanted to know my back ground they asked.
5) Canada: You are Asian Immigrant, that was mostly I got from them.
6) France/Switzerland: Mostly knew I am UK Asian (dont know how?)
7) Italy: Always thought I was indian (stupid Italians)
8) Czech/Slovakia/Poland/Hungary & Balkans: You are foreigner, you are not gypsy because you are too decent to be gypsy.
9) so on & so forth .. in many other countries.

The purpose of writing all this is, most of the people who tell you, that you dont look pakistani is because they havent met too many Pakistanis & the ones they have met usually come from the same group/area of Pakistan. When they see the person from different group/area of Pakistan, they mind doesnt accept it immediately & they start to relate him to other countries.

in amreeka it was often "are you indian". i'd only say yes if the guy was justifiably pissed off about something i did.

and yes, sometimes people would start speaking in spanish
