Re: Would you marry a man from Pakistan
Getting back to the original question, lets for arguments sake say that the Pakistani guy is an engineer, not an IT one but mechanical, chemical etc., yes, it wouldn't be hard for him to build A Career here, but it depends on how old that guy is. If he already has 15 years of experience in Pakistan, than ageism can come into place. He will be too old for entry level and his Pakistani experience will not be considered much for him to work at a higher level. Usually 25-26 year old engineers come here from Pakistan, get their masters degree and get work. If they have petroleum industry experience esp. in the Middle East, than that is considered, even for older people.
So the problem is not being from Pakistan and Pakistani education but more about age. Of course, there are exceptions to every rule and yes, IT people even those who are older have an easier time getting in even with Pakistani experience.
regarding nurse anesthetists, those are the elite among the nursing profession and you need to have 2 years of acute ICU experience and a good GPA to get in. Of course, the criteria is much lesser tha doctors but still---. Also, a lot of nurse anesthetist jobs are in hospitals in smaller cities (yes, I know ambulatory surgical centers in larger cities have these opportunities too, but more exist in smaller cities, that is one more factor to consider. Would you be willing to sacrifice the closeness of a desi community that is to be found in larger cities or are you ok with it?
Also, harsh reality, desis like prestige positions. Nursing is not considered an elite profession in Pakistan, so even if that person is earning well, he would not be considered quite the catch!
who has to rebuild himself here, meaning, he wont have a job once he comes here to be with you? (so like marrying a woman and bringing her over, but genders are reversed).
Let's say for argument's sake that you're working, and/or have money from whatever means and the two of you can afford to deal with the haul of the guy setting himself up here (education, new job, etc).
I bring up this topic because I'm observing some of the comments of women swooning in another thread over a nurse anesthesist and the idea he can make 130 K.
Is it really all about the $$ at the end of the day for women?
