Re: Would you like to move (or move back) to Pakistan?
I will move and probably raise my family in Pakistan but right now like someone mentioned, here to get some experience and that's probably it. Offcourse, if the situation goes down hill in Pakistan as most of us fear than no, because security comes first.
Re: Would you like to move (or move back) to Pakistan?
if i move to pakistan for good i will choose to stay in the suburbs, in the villages or the beautiful northern areas. i dont see a point in moving from one populated polluted area to another.....there's really nothing "pakistani" about living in big cities in pakistan anymore. people are busy and bit&hy, life is relatively fast, there's traffic and pollution. karachi traffic is especially crazy. it takes my father the same amount of time in commute to get to work in karachi as it does to me. so whats the point?
Re: Would you like to move (or move back) to Pakistan?
shweetdreamz, many move back not because of the similarities, but to be closer to the Pakistani culture (whatever that might be) and their roots.
After a recent trip to Pakistan, I realized it's not easy to settle there after having lived outside of Pakistan for a number of years. There were so many stories that I was told about cell phone snatching, robberies, and the like that I was in fear most of the time.
It was also very sad for me to witness a case of bribery (unless it's called by a different name there). There's a lot of environmental and noise pollution as well. Moral values seem to have gone down the drain. There was so much going on that it was hard to absorb it all.
Poverty is really the only thing that left an impact on me. I truly felt bad for the people begging at traffic lights/intersections and in bazaars.
I'd love to revive this thread to see if those wanting to move to Pakistan actually end up moving and settling there.

*But if you run away from these challenges who will improve the lot of deprived. Outsiders..they won't. *
** Be a change agent mme. You can't improve the world but you can always improve the world around you. Pick one person..either a close relative's kid or an acquaintance's kid. Help him/her till he/she is self reliant and take commitment that he/she would help two such children. Pyramid of help continues to grow in geometric progression. Even if the chain breaks some link will continue to grow. Only one condition.. selfless help w/o expecting any returns.
Re: Would you like to move (or move back) to Pakistan?
yes sadiyah thats what im saying...if u want to move back to be closer to pakistani culture then why move to a big city in which as you said the cultural and moral values are going down the drain? i think most people want the best of both worlds i.e. convenience of living in a big city as well as having the ability to hold their cultural values close. which is very hard to achieve.
Re: Would you like to move (or move back) to Pakistan?
Don't know what happened with all the fonts. try this ....
I’m Brit born and raised and have been to Pakistan for 7/8 months when I was a teenager and been back again in 2005 with my English wife and 2 children. We stayed for 2 weeks and loved it. So much so that my wife has been asking to move out there ever since.
We love the culture and found the people to be very nice and welcoming. We went to the bazaars on our own in Pindi and never once felt threatened or uneasy.
I have a big family in and around Isloo and Pindi who will be happy to help us buy land and build a modest house. We can’t wait. We will still have a house in the UK for investment purposes. I deal in property and live a comfortable life but, we don’t wake up to the sound of azhan and we try to remember, this life is but a blink of an eyelid. The junat is what we are struggling for and we would like to raise our children to be Muslims free from the corruptions of the west.
I think people forget there is pollution and lots of traffic here in the west too, the state schools are pretty poor, crime rates are high and corruption is evident within the judiciary and at local government level. We pay stupid money for everyday goods.
Some people in Pakistan are poor and have to resort to bribes and begging but that is life. If I was in their shoes I would be doing the same, so good luck to them. We would love to open a small soup shop in Pindi and allow homeless and the poor to go there for a free basic meal. It would be open for a couple of hours in the morning and evening. I have lots of land near Jhelum so could maybe use it to grow rice and wheat. Are we being too idealistic?
Also we know lots of Muslims who would love to move back to their homelands.
Remember life is what you make it so be adventurous and take calculated risks and if you can make things better for yourself and for those less fortunate then Alhumdulilah!!

7/8 months as a teen and then 2 weeks in 2005. not a realistic timeframe to understand the issues

be mindful of the corruptions of the east though :)

ahhhh, its is not the poor who 'have' to 'resort' to bribes. bribery is everywhere,
as far as begging goes, not all beggers are poor people resorting to begging, there are organized crime cartels which have begging as one of the portfolio of activities.

If state schools are pretty poor in your view, then there is an option of PRIVATE schools available as well. Ruth Kelly has gone for it.
Re: Would you like to move (or move back) to Pakistan?
I can't stand Pakistanis in USA, forget in Pakistan. Nope. I never even had a green passport. I am not Pakistani by birth..just spent a few ridiculous years of my life due to reasons beyond my control.
