Would you let you kid marry an Imam?

Re: Would you let you kid marry an Imam?

oh that analogy makes sense! Project managers don't get married that often or that easily!! hahahha.

Re: Would you let you kid marry an Imam?

Is not that sad that we want our imams to work 18 hour days and we dont pay them at all. Dont you think that many people would consider their kids to become Imam (Alim) if it was a lucrative job?

Re: Would you let you kid marry an Imam?

another way the imam at our masjid gets paid is by the weekly saturday classes. I think that's his only income from the masjid. But he does a lot of speaking at conferences and such.

Can anyone tell me what exactly an Imam does all day? Just lead the Salah and the Jummah prayers and khutba? Why can't he have another job as well?

Re: Would you let you kid marry an Imam?

Looking after a mosque is a big thing. But I knew this imam near my place in london who was a barber.

Re: Would you let you kid marry an Imam?

If she wanted too, then yes. I’d rather her marry an imam than marry a rich man who may run off at the very first opportunity.

:khumar:

Re: Would you let you kid marry an Imam?

unless they have a store within mosque or at walking distance from mosque, its almost impossible to keep working and lead the prayer 5 times a day.

Re: Would you let you kid marry an Imam?

So there's the obvious implication that the girls' family isn't as religious as this suitor imam. After marriage, would he frown upon his wife mingling with her less-than-religious-enough family? Would that be a source of friction/embarrassment for her/them? Would he later have problems with his children mingling with their cousins who might not be model muslims?

And yes, I'd be afraid of a multiple marriage situation.

Re: Would you let you kid marry an Imam?

is the imam considered the President of the masjid? I thought a lot of masjid have boards? no?

Re: Would you let you kid marry an Imam?

really? how about if they work from home, ie. have an office in the masjid?

Re: Would you let you kid marry an Imam?

exactly what a pastor does all week after the sunday church service

Re: Would you let you kid marry an Imam?

which is?

(i'm not trying to belittle their position, heck no..just curious what exactly the job description of an Imam is)

Re: Would you let you kid marry an Imam?

thats what I said that unless he is either working from home/mosque or from within walking distance...

Re: Would you let you kid marry an Imam?

To me he is like a night watchman, a security guard. You dont ask a guard what he does when no robbery in the bank is happening, do you?

Re: Would you let you kid marry an Imam?

^ huh?

so he just stands around all day?

Re: Would you let you kid marry an Imam?

There are many thing including but not limited to

  • Teaching Quran to kids (in many mosques after asar namaz)
  • work as the security guard.
  • work as person who take care of the mosque, cleans it and manage day to day repairs etc
  • many mosques have early morning quran classes too

Re: Would you let you kid marry an Imam?

^ No he does not Afhsi .. I am sure he takes care of small small things all day long .. but I see it this way ... someone's family member passed away and they want Imam to perform namaz and/or ghusl .. but imam cant come because he is selling daal chawal at some grocery store to take care of his family's need. Do you really want an imam like that in your masjid?

Re: Would you let you kid marry an Imam?

are there not any volunteers that can do all this as well?

the masjid I attend has.

so what does the President of the Masjid Board do?

Re: Would you let you kid marry an Imam?

koi yeh tu bataey kis ki beti ki shadi ho rahi hai jo yeh itni discussion ho rai hai

Re: Would you let you kid marry an Imam?

volunteers are just volunteers, sometime you have 10s of those and at any given time you have none. There got to be a dedicated person if its a proper mosque.

Re: Would you let you kid marry an Imam?

Nothing wrong with an Imam selling daal chawal to provide for his family.

You know what issue is? Masjids needs more volunteers. It seems to me that the Imam is doing the brunt of the work (practically everything) and everythign depends on him.

what happens if he's sick or cannot lead the prayers for some reason?
