But you will be doing just that. Everyone forces their believes on their children in one manner or the other. One cannot avoid that. The key IMO is to realize what the important factors are and be open-minded about them.

Of course you can term it teaching if you want to be politically correct/evasive, won’t change the gist of it.

Gimme a break. Their idea of happiness can be extremely different and totally at odds with yours. They are not you. At some point you got to realise that they have evolved into living, breating beings of their own and might, just might dare to differing needs of their own, you cannot be breathing down their necks during their whole lives. Millions of parents over countless generations have had the same notions, ‘all we do is for the welfare of our children, do you honestly expect us to think ill of them?’ Well, here’s a clue. Why don’t you listen to them for a change, and pay attention to what ‘they’ might like and appreciate.

I just cannot understand how you can stop someone you love from trying out something they may enjoy greatly which hurts no one else.

Yep. In my family my folks allowed me to go out for lunch and bowling or shopping with a guy as long as he came to the house pickd me up said hello and told them he was interested in me ..seriously interested.

His folks woudl also have to know about us going out together.

Daughter or son, both are allowed to date after 15 or 16. I don't want to raise social degenerates, neither do I want them to think they are the odd ones out, because even now almost everyone dates, so given the time period, I assume it will be really be out of the ordinary, not dating I mean. Dating is a part of growing up and learning life's lessons. I wouldn't wanna rob them of it.

And to think about it, like 22 years from now, "My daughter is dating, HAW!" will hardly be the issue, us as parents may have to face stronger issues like "My daughter is sexually active at 10, haw!" or "my 12 year old wants to join a nudist cult". We really can't tell. Who knows what trend will be set off then, what will be the "in" thing and us being from the previous generation are bound to find it filthy and disgusting and morally wrong. I will try to keep an open mind but I think there is a certain limit which I don't know of right now.

NO way in hell!!! Guys are jerks, pigs, kameeney, cheap, bey-ghairat and what not. So much goes through their heads and I will protect my daughter from those junglis Yes I am a guy too and I know the mentality of guys (ofcourse there are ‘exceptions’).

as for me..i wudn’t let my daughter OR son date, hell no…once they graduate college, are earning money, then they can do watever they want. hopefully by that time I will have taught them how to make the right decisions, esp my daughters. i think junior high n high school are WAY too young to date…having petty crushes and guy friends are okay, but actual dating, no.

ahem…i have never dated and i am definitely not a social misfit around th eopposite sex:rotfl: generalisations get you nowhere…i would say i am confident in the way i am and in the way i am around the opposite sex, in fact since wearing the hijab i have become more confident…

if a date is when you go out with someone, spending time with them, talking, eating, having a good laff.. then thats all good…

but, if a date is about getting all physical and stuff.. then no, i dont approve… ive never been on any such date and i dont think i have any trouble talking to the opposite sex, infact i get along better with males than i do with females.. but then again, i am wierd
