I had a similar incident. I was in Lahore and was borrowing a friend’s Kawasaki trail, don’t remember exactly where it was but I was going to shop for “khais”. I stopped at a red light (yeah yeah, sometimes you have to) and turned my head to the left and was shocked to see a horse’s head 4 inches from my face, so i kinda leaned to the right and bumped into something and turned to the right and saw that i’d bumped into a donkey’s head. I haven’t laughed harder than I did that day.

To the topic at hand: I actually tried moving to Karachi in '97, but that didn’t last for more than 6 weeks and I was back. But it might change one day, as X2 said.

alright maybe i should share my part too here.
i was sitting on the back seat, reading something so had no idea what was going on outside. I had my hand on the window which was open. suddenly i felt something but didn’t really realize and kept reading. after a few seconds when i saw - it was horse’s open mouth…
I think it was somewhere on the mall road/anar-kali

I was in a damn taxi with no ac and the window was open and in saddar area we got stuck in a traffic jam with a tonga next to me..the horses rear was just outside my window and then he took a dump...

OMG do you still have Tanga’s in Big cities like Lahore are you Kidding,…If not then its amazing.. In Mumbai, even Auto Rickshaws are not allowed on some roads, first time i went on a cycle ricksaw in Dhaka, because in south we don’t have cycle ricksaws or Tanga, even Dhaka don’t have any Tanga’s

everyone should move back n forth, n explore the new meanings of life n world.

so answering you question, i rather reside there "permanently" after my death.

for temporarily, sure-y not!

the back and forth thing would be ideal but when you have children in the future it's hard for them since once they actually get used one country you've got them moving to another country and they have to get used a whole new environment again.

But still that is a good idea and it's definitely something to think about

I wonder if the guppies that came here to do their Masters or PHDs thought they would some day go back after they got their degrees and got some work experience.

I think even they get used the life in the west and change their minds...no?

forget ppl in pakistan, i had always planned to go back to UK, all thorugh undergrad, and then decided to do MBA here because i was in a better program here than the ones i got in UK, went part time and then decided that I was just better set here and more familiar with it..so stayed. London still holds a very special place for me, but I like living here more. If i could live 3-4 months out of the year there, it would eb perfect

I'd not consider it because of the pathetic state of education there esp for special-ed students. And cause of personalities that call themselves things - who spread hatred, see conspiracy theories in every corner and call to war everyone who is stoopid enough to listen.

If those 2 issues were NOT issues, heck I'd not even pack, I'd just GO.

just curious but what accent do you have after moving around so much....british accent or something of a mix?

usually a mix, but shifts by company, something I get a lot of grief from ppl including my wife and colleagues. and even within US its a hodge podge of midwest versus mid atlantic. but more philly than chicago.

some of my family members (cousins & myself) tried to settle down in PK after completing our eduction but we all came back.
They came back because they were disappointed and i came back because of a personal reason.

PK's situation is never reliable. There were times when my family decided to go back to PK & start their own businesses etc. in early 70s but bcaz of bhutto's nationalization policies, they all came back to UK after losing all their investments.
and now its just hard to do anything there with bribe rates going up, political, economical situation. Nobody wants to take risk anymore.

i have two cousins who came here for their masters, found great jobs, got their green cards, had their children here.. after working here for abt 6 years after their masters, they moved back last year to bangalore. with a salary of arnd 65k USD in india, they're enjoying a great lifestyle there.

i spent half my life in india and the other half here, i wouldn't mind moving back if i could get a similar deal, but i'm quite happy here as well. for me the main attraction of life in the States is the breathing space.. back home u can get suffocated with everyone and their grandmother poking their nose into ur business :-\ maybe they leave u alone once u're married.. but i'm not too sure abt that either.
