Re: Worst piece of parenting advice you were ever given.
I took my 3 month old Pakistan n everyone gave me grief about the shape of his head n how I did such a poor job with it..in fact one day I found my bil pressing his head while he had him lied down on the coffee table..I was furious to see that..I picked him up n took him inside n told my husband noone dare shape his head in my absence and if anyone said anything again, I will be very rude! It worked! :D
And the cry it out..I had aunties tell me to let him CIO so he will have stringer lungs and in fact people made fun of me that I would pick him up as soon as he cried, if ever! I don't agree with letting your baby cry..it breaks my heart n I just can't do it!!!
Other than that, usually people don't say much..also, I hardly ever visit people since he has born so I don't give people a opportunity to advice me :D
Re: Worst piece of parenting advice you were ever given.
well if you go old school enough, **they had stuff like giving afeem (opium) to baby so that it doesnt cry at nights. **old school doesnt mean necessarily right.

Gripe water comes with and without alcohol.
I give the kid the non-alcoholic one, the brand is Kolik in case you are still looking.

What is your take on swaddling. I have seen one mother who had her kid swaddle in 104 degrees heat because her MIL insisted. Baby's cheek were red and even her body temp felt higher than normal to me but MIL insisted that its good for baby
Re: Worst piece of parenting advice you were ever given.
it depends on baby, my baby didnt liked it so i stopped doing it but yeah its good because baby gets the same feeling as they are in womb, but not to make babies too much warm, my nephew was born in summrs, he used to wear half sleeves shirt n thn swaddled in soft cotton cloth
Re: Worst piece of parenting advice you were ever given.
I swaddled my baby and it helped her sleep better especially because it kept her Moro reflex in check. I tried using swaddling blankets but she would break away from those in a matter of minute. So I used the Halo swaddling blankets which were a lot better. I stopped swaddling at around 4 months since she was rolling over a lot and it wasn't safe to keep her swaddled anymore. Oh and for warmer months, they do have cotton swaddling blankets.
As for 'worst advice', I honestly haven't received any. Yes a lot of people have advised me about a lot of things and they all have genuinely meant well. Also the advice worked for their babies so I think they were just being helpful. In the end you listen to all the advice but you do what you know is best for your baby. Why get so worked up about it?
In my opinion worst advice would equate to something that actually harms the baby and I doubt that's the case with most of the advice given.
Re: Worst piece of parenting advice you were ever given.
Having seen the impact of old school advice like a "sand filled pillow" to shape the babies skull I did follow it and will recommend it to anyone.
I did use the attay ki maalish and yes it does remove fuzz and often keeps it from growing back. The trick is that you have to do it aggressively and within the first few weeks of birth.
I have shaped the nose.....and I did press down on the forehead and also on the upper lip.
I watched my mother do all of these things to my nieces and nephews and I saw the results first hand. If I had not seen then I would have been unlikely to follow too.
I never really got any truly bad advice from anyone.......
Re: Worst piece of parenting advice you were ever given.
true, this is wht i was saying most of the tips are old school remedies or tricks, it depends on parents to do it or not but cant categorize it as worst advice :k:

That qualifies as stupidity. Babies overheat easily and it's not a good thing. Parents should follow their own instincts first and foremost when it comes to their kids. Everyone else, and their advice- well intentioned or not- should come second.
Re: Worst piece of parenting advice you were ever given.
Send your kids to school so they can get bullied and become more social by someone who's not even married yet and doesn't sound like a "social" person.
