PCG.. i am not a scholar and by any mean not a great Muslim.. i try my best and i hope that Allah makes us a good Muslim.

First of all you should read Surat An Nisa. Read it from the beginning till end and then think about the verses.

Think about all the rights that Allah has given to Women by Islam. Women were treated horribly with disgust. Men would "own" women and treat them as properties.

You have to understand that when Islam gives the right to marry four wives it also demands that all four must be treated equally, failing to do so is considered a SIN.

"Marry women of your choice, two, or three, or four; but if you fear that you shall not be able to deal justly (with them), then only one." Al-Qur’an (4:3)

In the same Surah Allah also says:
"You will never be able to be fair and just among women (wives)...." Qur’an (4:129)

So you can see that its really hard to fall into the category of being "fair" to everyone.

As said earlier in the thread, this permission is really to help the orphan and widows.

I hope this answers your question or helps you in getting close to answer. This is from what i have researched but the truth is only known to Allah (SWT)

If this verse is really to help orphans and widows (and yes i believe that) i would like to know how come muslim men marry 2, 3, 4 because of the following reasons:
1. because I just can't control my lust and i need more than one woman to satisfy me
2. because you can't have kids and i have the right to marry another wife to have kids
3. because the man can afford it.

I don't see how orphans and widows are being helped in those scenarios. I don't see anywhere in the Quran or the Prophet's Sunnah where these reasons are given for polygamy.

At the same time, you hear many guys advocating polygamy and claiming OH it's because there are more women than men. Well I would like to know if they are so concerned about muslim women, why are many muslim men marrying outside of our religion? Because it's allowed? What about the muslim women they are so concerned about? If they were really concerned, they wouldn't marryinig out if there are so many extra women.

And this leads me to another question I would like answered:

If majority of muslims believe that the women is responsible for raising the child and claim a woman's primary duty is to her home (her husband and kids) so that she may impart religious/cultural/academic knowledge, then please explain to me why muslim men marry women outside their religion? I've seen it happen and I've seen how the kids turn out Christian (or whatever other religion) because the husband is working and the wife is at home teaching their kids HER religion. . . yet it is Muslim women who are prevented from marrying people of the book because they are weak and his opinions could be forced upon her. . . interesting isn't it? ? ?

You cannot have an orphan as your son. The rights of orphans are different than the rights of children.

Oh and I have another question: How come men who are in full support of engaging in polygamous marriages, support it with the verse from the Quran and the Prophet's marriages. . . how come they're not so eager to marry widows the way the Prophet did? Why is it they're so willing to follow his example of marrying Hazrat Ayesha but so unwilling to follow his example of his other wives? ? ?

FYI, Muslims are the most monogamous people on earth…

The argument is whether anyone has the authority to take this right away from men…

How many polygamous marriages have you seen in Muslims? Hardly any right?

How many extra marital affairs happen in western cultures? According to a study, 67% of guys have had extra marital affairs and more than 70% of women…

Isn’t it better you know who your husband’s second love is instead of being cheated upon?

But I guess Islam is so suppressive of Women that 7 out of 10 reverts around the world are women…And many of them adopt their new faith so well, they even marry men already married…

While our own women remain mired in trying to be westernized and keep arguing Divine rights and Laws placed there by Allah :swt:…

What’s going to happen if all women start thinking like me? ? ? Muslim men will be so oppressed. Personally, I find that argument really lacking, the whole blame it on the west crapp. Why do you guys immediately compare to the west? There isn’t a single Islamic country that has given women all rights due to them by Islam but you want to compare to the west? ? ? Why don’t we look at Muslim countries’ problems. How many have I seen in polygamous marriages? Enough to know it exists and is quite popular no matter how much you may deny it. My own aunt is in a polygamous marriage. And yes, the guy treats both of them like crapp so I guess he isn’t doing a friggin thing wrong as long as he’s treating them equal right.

Yes many Muslim revert because they are told that Muslims are perfect toward their women and then they freak out after they revert to Islam because an Imam tells them OH ISLAM HAS GIVEN YOU MANY, MANY RIGHTS. MORE THAN THE WEST. . . BUT, YOU GOTTA PRAY IN THAT LITTLE ITTY BITTY CORNER WAY BACK THERE WHERE NO ONE CAN SEE YOU BECAUSE YOU ARE A TEMPTATION AND A TEST TO MANKIND.

And no i’m not blaming islam. I’m blaming culture, tradition and all that good stuff. Yes, Islam liberated women from being possessions but many Muslim men (and women) still see them as possessions while at the same time touting the rights Islam has given to women.

There is no shortage of believing women who are proud to be Muslimahs and realize their role and status in society…

While many mod-Muslim women remain confused, questioning their faith, uneasy and argumentative throughout their life, there are those who take their place comfortably beside their spouses and actually make better Muslims out of their husbands with their belief and confidence in Allah :swt:…

Which Muslim man wants to settle down with a confused, argumenative, uneasy and unsure women who questions everything about her faith regarding women beacuse the media subliminally programs her into thinking that she is inferior or oppressed in some way…

Like I said, Islam is a religion of thinkers who ponder Allah :swt:'s verses…That is why 7 out of 10 reverts are not men but women, women who realize what rights, honour and importance they are given in Islam while many Muslimahs drift away from Islam in trying to be westernized…

Different strokes for different folks…There are as much if not more Muslimahs who know who they are and their obligations to society wishing many of you wish they would become as unhappy with their lot and become quarrelsome as you…

Quran does not address, O Muslims but as O believers…For a Muslim can be any person who realizes who Allah :swt: is and His Laws…But a believer is someone who not only realizes who Allah :swt: is, but obeys His Laws…He doesn’t doubt them to be unpolitically correct because He (nauzubillah) didn’t have enough sense when He made them…

So you either believe and become a believer or you doubt and question and become an unbeliever…

Thankfully, there is no shortage of believing women and believing men out there…

Thankful to Allah (swt) I have taken my place comfortably beside my husband. Thankfully, he’s not intimidated by women and has enough confidence in himself to rise above the subservient, submissive role you guys love your women to play. And thankfully, God gave me enough of a brain to realize that I would never go for anyone different.

No one is afraid of thinking women…What can they do?

Take Amina Wadud…What a thinker…She wants women to lead mixed gender prayers where it is prohibited and every Muslim knows that…

The idea behind Islam is to obey Allah :swt: and follow the Messenger :saw:…Like, stopping at a red light and going at the green…

What would you call someone who goes on red and stops at green? You would surely call that person an ignorant person, right? Someone who doesn’t know the laws and yet is out on the street messing up traffic…

It is said, not just in Islam, but Buddhism, Christianity, Hinduism and every other religion in the world, that the most ignorant of people consider themselves the wisest…You know, sorta like ignorance is bliss because as long as I have all the answers, no one else knows any better…

So people like Irshad Manji, the self professed lesbian scholar of Islam…Or the lady with the self professed b@stard son scholar, Asra Nomani, who support pre marital sex, think that they are great thinkers and intellectuals…By trying to question Islam’s tenets and trying to change the rules of Islam, they think they are really smart or something…

But Muslims, who know the Laws of Allah :swt:, know better…Some try to teach them, some try to counter them, some try to reason with them…But they are great thinkers and you can never argue with great thinkers like them…It is better to let them be on their way…

Like the guy who goes on red and stops on green…He isn’t going to listen to anyone…He’s a great thinker…What can people do? They think of him as a nutcase and move on…Some laugh, some get ticked others don’t even care…

So, if you wish to join the ranks of great thinkers like them, be my guest…But those who know the rules of the road will stay on it and follow them, or they get a ticket…

No one is afraid of women like you…We can only tell you what wrong is being done, the rest up to you…

The idea behind Islam is to convey, not convert…One can only point out errors in Islam, not force anyone…

In the Quran, it states:

**27:4 As to those who believe not in the Hereafter, We have made their deeds pleasing in their eyes; and so they wander about in distraction.

6:110 We (too) shall turn to (confusion) their hearts and their eyes, even as they refused to believe in this in the first instance: We shall leave them in their trespasses, to wander in distraction.

I don't follow anyone's version of islam, i follow what God has ordered us to follow thankyouverymuch.

Yes everything in the west is bad . Everything in muslim countries is Good. How would you know what 95% of women want? It's always amazing how you guys sit there and make assumptions about women when OH MY GOD, none of you are women.

You need to grow up boy. The problem with your "kind" is that you're so busy following your schools of thought and what people wrote that you forget that Allah (swt) wrote a beautiful book too. Maybe you've heard of it, it's called the Quran. You should pick it up sometime.

And yes I work. And my husband gets a good income too. . . so oh MY GOD. HOW DARE I? ? ? WHAT A SIN I'm COMMITTING. . .
