So what do they do when they have to have a picture ID eg. driver's license.
I saw this girl in nikaab at uni. and it was weird. I wonder what she does when she has to go to the admissions office, cuz they require a picture id for everything.
Do they have to take of their nikaab at the airport?
Even in Pakistan, don't you have to show your full face for a picture id or other matters?
I think a nikaab is a little too excessive, especially if you live in the west. What do you think?
We're living in Canada and my wife wears niqaab whenever she goes out. Several of my friends' wives do the same thing. While I was going to university, I also used to see women who wore niqaab. We also know several families who either live or lived in the US, and whose women also wear niqaab when they go out.
As someone already mentioned, when they need to show their face for identification purposes, they do it. As far as others having a problem with it, well I've only met a handful of people who've actually said anything. And usually when they do choose to say something about it, it's to the man accompanying the woman. I've usually dealt with it by either ignoring them, screaming back at them or laughing and walking away from them. It doesn't make uncomfortable in the least to accompany my wife going anywhere while she wears niqaab.
Sometimes my wife has been questioned about it by other women and when she explained it to them, they seemed content with her explanation and appreciated why she does it. Some have gone as far as to give her preferential treatment for it.
Here most people don't mind what anybody else does. Alhamdulillah, Allah has made it easy for us.
hijab is about modesty, whereas Niqab works more as a shield or a cloak.
and you will have completely different personality experiences with both wearers.
I know at least 5 women in our circle of friends who wear niqaab. They all go out and do their groceries, pick up kids from school, shop at malls, etc etc etc...they are very comfortable and happy. I think it's the rest of us who have a bigger issue worrying about them, perhaps because we don't feel comfortable in doing that.
Exactly, I agree, especially with the bold part. I know a few girls in College who wear the niqaab and they are really nice, friendly and comfortable (with themselves and around others).. it's totally their choice and they have every right to go out like that.
My guess is that they did take their niqaabs off for the College ID card pics, I've never really asked them or anything though.. I mean, its not like we walk around showing each other our cards so the topic has never really come to mind.
Yeah, I don't think I could do niqaab. RH said it straight - however, I have zero issues with those who choose to practice it, well and good for them. May we all be rewarded for our intentions.

It's prohibited by law to cover your face on IDs, driver license etc. Those are the exceptions, other than that in Germany one isn't allowed to wear it while attending public insitutions such as school or courtrooms or to take part in a protest with it.
I'm constantly insulted and degraded not only by non-Muslims, it's often Muslims who tell me I'm going to extreme who point fingers at me or make stupid remarks...
My fellow Muslim classmates are telling me that I draw far more attention to myself by observing it, but I have a huge trouble with the Pakistani guys here, they keep starring at me the whole time and it annoys me...Niqab doesn't even stop them from it, but at least then I can say about myself I've done the best to cover myself properly...
Today I was at the private tutoring institute and two little boys made fun of me, one called me a "zombie" I don't know why but I simply lost my patience and snapped back at him. I ended up insulting a little kid, later he and his friend(who was a Moroccon Muslim boy) came and apologised and even gave me some of their chocolate...I felt so bad...it's not his fault that he doesn't understand it, of course he is curious about it and it really made me think whether I should continue with it. On top of that my family is not even Muslim, my dad is not aware of the niqab he already gets mad at me for abaya and headscarf. Momentarily I really don't know if it's the right thing to do, as I rarely see any other Niqabi running around. I feel so helpless, I really want to be a strong Muslimah, at the same time I don't want to EVER scream at a little child again for not understanding something so alien to him.

You can be a strong muslimah even without wearing a niqab. The whole purpose of hijab is lost when you wear niqab in a society where everyone is looking at you because of niqab.
Why is the purpose lost then? I've been told actually one should wear it during times of fitnah and how it serves the purpose for people are only aware of your body shape and don't see anything more...maybe I just keep on listening to the wrong people :(

Well, the purpose of hijab for women is to not get people's attention and if it's not happening then you need to think about it.
I'm just sooooo confused right now I think I have to do istheekhara on that issue...I don't want to commit something wrong, I've done so many wrong things and I wanted to beome a better person and I thought wearing niqab helped me but now it's becoming more and more an obstacle to me.

Do istikhara inshaallah. It's not a fard to wear niqab in a western society but if you think it helps you becoming a better person than you should carry on wearing it without screaming at anyone.

I really like niqab. I have plenty of hijabi friends and I have met niqabi women but I dont know any personally. They are perfectly fine walking around like that and I think thats wonderful for them not to fear society.
Emmmm generalized, but I guess if you don’t live in this country all you will hear is anti America crap.
Now on to niqabies, I find it to be extreme and uncomfortable for others, and not only other westerns, but I get scared. And as someone said, they take it off when they have too??? You might as well wear a hijab!!!
Story time (its short not worries):
So I’m travelling through qatar airways, back to the US from PK, and in Qatar, we pickup bunch of people including, these 6 niqabies, with enough gold for the rest of the people on the flight, but you learn to ignore. But anyway, 12 hours later, its time to land, in New York!!! Well what i’m about to explain is much like american pie, but niqabi style!!! So we are gonna land in about 10 mins, when 2 of the niqabies get up half way from their seats, and rip that jilbab off like there is no tomorrow. I mean, she was just AT IT…ripping it off with the hijab (she did have really nice hair:wub:). And before I could fully grasp what was going on, the rest of the niqabies were hijab/jilbab FREE! And do I really need to mention what they were wearing under that??? Gaia still SHOCKED
And even more shocked then me, were these group of white college guys, who were abroad for the semester, and were just left speechless!!!
And you should not base your judgements on bollywood movies, perhaps.
No kidding. Since when did they become a source of truth? If you need a Bollywood movie to justify your close-minded and paranoid view of the world, then you've got serious issues.
