I quickly skimmed through the discussion and noticed most agree that Islam does given women rights, but those rights have been taken away from them for a number of reasons.
Are there any further points remaining that you folks would like to discuss or are we merely going in circles?
Salam Alaikom Soulkurri...and all :-)
Domestic violence is a form of control and restriction of rights prevailent...well let me see, globally, by muslim and non-muslim men and a minority of women also.
I do know that hypocritically the 'west' has given rights and passed laws but in reality its a kind of lip service to 'women's rights...and does not honour them.
Ask any woman who has been through the police, court, social services process.
Domestic violence is not recommended in Islam, it is not the key to being married, but there are many men- regardless of belief or unbelief who choose to inflict truly destructive levels of violence and control. Not ordained by Allah, self ordained. And 'privileged' men from all walks of life utilise terror tactics every day...even in some of these posts... I already got a ' threat to kill'...'
Likewise, many men never resort to inflicting harm or control in their marriages and have peace and unity. Alhamdulillah.
Don't lecture me about 'womens' rights issues please, I am more aware than you know. Alhamdulillah my muslim husband is my best friend, he is my confidante and has never laid a finger on me. We are married now for 9 years and I have only ever known him to be my greatest supporter.
Many of my family members (the women mainly) have had a rough ride where marriage is concerned. My mother was deeply concerned when we announced our intention to marry...now Alhamdulillah she loves my husband and considers him a great son and is proud to have a muslim son-in-law! He has opened her eyes.
It is also foolish to believe that the 'western' woman has more freedom- men expect more of her (even strangers seem to think 'hello' said niceley entitles them to privileges only a husband has the right to! and the fight for survival can be tough- I learned wing chun kung fu...(something I have only ever learned to say Alhamdulillah for!)
It is niaeve to believe that Islam is a source of a woman's troubles or imposes restrictions upon women. Western men expect no less from their wives than muslim men do and often do not honour their wives in even basic ways. Women in the west however are empowered to a degree to work, set up independant homes and be free from molestation - but it doesn't mean it is the best or most safe or honourable option. And if life is so great 'independant' style why do so many western women embrace Islam?
Why cause Islam Allowed to do that. Why Islam Allowed man to marry 4 woman cause Islam made by Allah and Allah made men and women he knows well whom to give permission and why.
Cause a single men can support maximum 4 family at a time with everything. Allah made men structure like that.
No I don't think so. I think its best way to balance the society. To stop bad behavior of men and women and to stop wrong things done by men and women.
How??? Think about that if a man marries 4 women then each woman will try to make him happy to get his love, attention and everything so that way she will try to be good for him. By doing this husband will get more attention and get more love from wife and in return he will Love her more.
That way he won't need another lady to flirt with or make secret relations to satisfy his needs. With 4 women he will get everything different and in my opinion he won't need any more lady to flirt with or won't get enough time to flirt to make society bad.
How could you understand justified or unjustified if you didn't make a single men and women.
Allah knows better. No one could be justice like him. He loves us way more than a mother so how could he unjustify with us. Its a simple thing to understand. People who follow SHAITAN don't understand.
but then this proves there rights are not equal to men.
why not vice versa.
regarding rights to drive in Saudi i thought it was islamic .sorry for that.
would you please explain what do you mean by domestic violence
in Quran
004.034
YUSUFALI: Men are the protectors and maintainers of women, because Allah has given the one more (strength) than the other, and because they support them from their means. Therefore the righteous women are devoutly obedient, and guard in (the husband’s) absence what Allah would have them guard. As to those women on whose part ye fear disloyalty and ill-conduct, admonish them (first), (Next), refuse to share their beds, (And last) beat them (lightly); but if they return to obedience, seek not against them Means (of annoyance): For Allah is Most High, great (above you all).
do you take this as domestic violance or not
please explain

Asalam Alikom, Usmanshahid,
Domestic violence really denotes men who exceed the limits. There are women refuges in the uk and usa, which house women and children who are literally in fear of their lives. A husband is not allowed to require his wife to obey him in unIslamic practices and should not place hardship on her. There are men who use hammer and chisels upon the facial features, burn using irons, ciggerettes and scald using boiling water. Men who throw household objects directly at their wives and/or children, men who throw acid, men who kill often if the wife tries to leave them etc. This is what I mean by domestic violence.
You seem to feel that I would challenge a husbands rights...not so, but I would challenge my husband if he wished to deny me my rights or enjoin haram conduct for me.
What do you think? Do you agree or feel I am being unfair?
soulkurri :
If you really want answers to your questions I suggest you calm down and look for them instead of writing posts out of anger.
Perhaps you can look up ur answers on this site regarding alleged wife beating, rights in islam and all other gripes you may have(no disrespect intended) :
ppp.islamonline.net
(please replace "ppp" with "www")
They answer politely even if spiteful questions are asked. If you go to sections labelled "Ask the Scholar", "Ask about Islam" you will find that these questions have been answered literally hundreds of times.
PS. If you do search for something - make sure to search it twice - the first time one submits a search it dosent go through as expected and returns over a 1000 results.
Salam alaikom mj1982...May Allah bless and reward you! I certainly thank you. Perhaps our brother usmanshahid can also visit this site and come back informed and not feeling so enraged? I feel that Islam is meant to be unifying and cohesive and educational. InshAllah we strive to that end always, Amin

Right...but admonish, spend nights in seperate beds first.....oh wait...that doesn't make sense now, does it?
Hmm... makes sense, muslim men have rights to punish his wife/wives... but not vice versa... hmmm this shows in islam, men and women have equal rights...hmm...anything else?
...

What is the Islamic view of such women? Lady Sarah or Hagar (whom millions emulate every year during Hajj)? Duh...thank YOu very much...
and who the hell said anyone was *waiting? *You think we don't know that Mary, the Queen of Sheba, Hagar, or any of these women predate the Quran?
Mary, the queen of sheba, hagar blah blah ...are all biblical characters...there is no factual evidence for their historical existence...just as there is no proof of existence of jesus either. You might have woken up lil' late in life...But than there are ppl who beleive wizard of OZ also exist.
Besides what are the great contributions of mary, queen of sheba her name?]and hagar? they produced babies!! So according to you, great women are baby making machines!! Hmmm!! go on...i'm impress!!
Hmm...shows you have not still read about queen zenobia.
Actually i was answering some poster who posted that before islam the status of women was that of a trash..And if it was not for islam, women would have lived and died without any rights.
Well and now you think women like mary , hagar and nameless queen of sheba are unequal examples of greatness...
So does MTV...sod off and bug them for once, and clean that up before you even think about lectruing us on what is and is not civilized.
So according to you there is no difference between views of women in Islam and on MTV!! okey!!! Thank you so much, even i wouldn't have said that!!
...Anywayz i dont watch MTV as i find it very loud and silly.
You're ignoring the point; it's clearly anything but a master-slave relation. Nor is that perscribed any sort of punishment...or if they are, they really are weak ones. Needless to say, the Prophet (pbuh) followed the steps, and at no point resorted to the beating...so the Sunnah is clear.
Now you tell me...if a woman hits her husband, what's the natural response? How do you think that will turn out in the long run?
And are you telling me you'd be okay with a slug fest, so long as both parties were "allowed"? I'm sorry, your conception of equality is stupid....
Okay...I'll bite...so there...no, there are no "equal" rights...and who cares...happy? in this context, equality is just a stick to beat muslims with...

Oh whatever...what the hell does that have to do with anything? Answer the question; what is the Islamic view of these women?
Now you're looking for contributions...define what impresses you first...making babies...what a stupid comment...
Queen Zenobia...a nobody as far as I know...yeah, i read about her...it's a two second google...big deal.

Give up. And her name was Bilqis...and why were they not great?

Eh? Clean up your backyard first before you start to pontificate...easy point to understand...
it’s systemic…a one time slap of a husband to his wife, or vice versa, is hardly abuse to any sane person, or anyone who is familiar with domestic violence.
:halo:
hmm
where you have find me wrong , can you mention plz
second i don’t rely on online material
i use visit the scholars personally
or talk to them via mail

The underlined is the lamest excuse I have ever heard. I am married and have no wish to have any sexual relation shipship with any other woman. You sound it to be that every male is a sex maniac. Well you are wrong in assuming so.
